Car change- Does it make sense?

Both of these points are totally subjective.

Not really, bigger cars are more refined than smaller cars. It's not a subjective issue, the bigger the car the more refined. The fact an S Class Merc is more refined than an A Class for example is not subjective, how can it be?

I'd rather be driving a leon than a mondy for that amount of time, I can imagine a mondy being american being much less refined, thirsty and boatlike.

The Mondeo is not American and the Mk3 Mondeo is not sold in America. It is not boatlike, however on Motorways boatlike is good - its more comfortable and you dont need to change direction rapidly.

Because what you would consider refined and what someone else would consider refined are most likely going to be two different things.

You'd be surprised how smooth the leons are at speed, they're nice cars to drive and come with a fair amount of kit. The 130 bhp version of the 1.9tdi is the best engine to have, best compromise but the 110 is still quite good.

i think you'll find the 150 is the best ;)

have to agree though. i've drove mine to norway and back 3 times and i had no complaints.
sure, it sounds like a tractor and makes the sunroof rattle, but minus the pd150 the leon's quite refined :p

Keep the leon, the vag 1.9tdi engines are pretty much perfect for your needs.
Reliable, average around 60mpg on motorways, smooth.
And personally i find the leons to be quite cushty to drive.

We agree on something, oh wow :p

My choice of the Leon is because they just aren't a bad car, and to faff about with getting a potential money pit (as any 2nd hand car can be) when you know yours works seems a bit backward when yours does the job :)

If you want a big cruiser however, the Mondeo is a good car for the money - they're a bargain 2nd hand.

It doesn't. And when I went to the local seat dealers and asked about retrofitting it, you'd think I'd just walked in and dumped on the carpet. Totally confused and very put out.

Taking it to the dealer was the problem...

When I had my vRS there were plenty of indys that would do the retrofit. I seem to remembe £140 mentioned, but budget under £200 and you should be fine...

The thing with changing the Leon to a Mondeo is the time it takes, the cost of changing, and the unknown.

If I were looking for a cheap but honest, well specced motorway cruiser, I'd get the Mondeo over the Leon, but unless you're particularly bored of it, or there's something wrong with it, I wouldn't bother changing...

EDIT: £2k for a Leon TDI? *chortle* If you get any less than three for yours (privately) you've been had.

Put the miles on the X5, advertise the Leon for 3.5k to sell at 3k-3.2k, and buy a decent 172 as a fun second car...

EDIT 2: Why the **** have they ruined autotrader? I wouldn't mind so much if while ****ing it up, they'd at least added more mileage, age, and price options like eBay... Grrr!

Our old company Leon 110 SE had cruise. Do some no dealer research before scrapping the idea.

My 05 Mondeo 130 Zetec oil burner is great on fuel over distance (average 50MPG at decent motorway speeds) but it's not that comfy. The Seat we had wasn't a bad car and tbh wouldn't bother me over distance.

Its just a case of changing the stalk - VW dealerships actually have it in the acessories catalogue for the golf..

The seats in the Zetec/ZS/LX are the main niggles of the car - a Ghia/GX would be better for comfy seats

I'd like to believe that's true but having had a look on AT, I'm struggling to keep my hopes up. And since I've 'misplaced' my service book for it, I think the people the Leon will be reaching will shy away from it.
