Car Claim

Just park on the road opposite, I wouldn't even consider parking on a grass verge, regardless of other people doing it.

Edit: yes, neighbours can be annoying unfortunately.

The pavement in front of our drive is lowered, that is soemthing we don't feel easy about, plus just to the right of th shot there, is a lamppost and if she parks behind the post in front our our driveway she is slightly blocking their side of the lowered kerb too. That could make it tight for them to get out.
At least where she is parked she doesnt block any walkway or drives.

The major point here is not about the rights and legalities of where to park anyway. It is about the fact our neighbour is making a false fraudulent claim for a collision, which didn't happen.

Whilst it's a pain I can see why some people would get wound up by it. Looking on Google Earth your neighbour has a similar sized drive as you, so if he's got room for two cars I can't see why you can't - esp with the missus' car being an Aygo? Perhaps it's time to sacrifice the front lawn to make room for another parked car, esp with your car being pricey?

why is the focus on the parking location?

It main point of this is that my neighbour is making a fraudulent claim against my wife cos he has a bee in his bonnet.

I'd just say to the neighbour that there has obviously been some kind of "mistake" with your insurance and you just wanted to check it wasn't by them as whoever it was is likely to be investigated for fraud as your Aygo has been assessed and deemed to have no damage what so ever.

I'd then purchase a house with off street parking for two cars.

Because perhaps that's the root cause? If plonker neighbour wasn't annoyed this wouldn't have happened? I'm not being funny - just stating something that a third party looking in on the issue sees as being obvious?

I honestly can't see that you'll have any problems with that. If the van was parked up close, is as big a nail as you say and there's no paint transfer/CCTV evidence etc showing it was your wife's fault then I can't see how it can be taken further.

I would perhaps try and call his bluff and mention to him you have submitted your dash cam footage to the insurance company who when happy will pass it off to the fraud department :)

I'm going to wait for the validator to visit and inspect my wifes car i think.
I feel CCTV would be very useful for the future too.

Also - parking on the grass verge areas, the legalities of it is governed by local by-Law set by the council. The local authority by-Law says that it is only ilegal for a car to be parked on a grass verge IF the road has a single or double yellow line and the vehicle is there during the time that these are enforced (or if you are blocking a walk way for a pedestrian). There is a sign on the lampost outside my house which states the single yellow line is only enforced between 12 noon and 3pm Monday-Friday and as my wife is at work during these hours then her parking on the grass verge is NOT illegal at all. So that argument can now be closed off. :)

Have you got the option of making the drive suitable for two cars? Although, yes, it does sound like your neighbour is just being a ****.

If that is the case then why do you not simply park in the road, as you are legally entitled to do, outside your own house?

Edit: scrub that as i have just street viewed the situation. Very easy to find. Your attached neighbour has widened their driveway to take 2-3 cars, you have an identical plot. Virtually all of your neighbours have also catered for their cars in similar ways.

I am totally with your neighbour im afraid, you have plenty of space to accommodate your own vehicles IMO.

Edit2: You even have a driveway which goes down the side of your property to what looks like a large garage!?

This is something that could escalate badly. Why don't you look in to changing your front garden to fit both cars, it's a popular situation where I live.

Having looked at your house on Google Streetview, can't the Aygo fit in front of your 370Z? I can't tell the width as there isn't a straight on view down your driveway.

And what's with the stones past the grassy area with the lamp post? Are they fixed in place?

Is there any possibility of getting her car on the driveway too? I know you mentioned it’s just big enough for one car but looking at the photo above would suggest there’s room/scope out to the right where there might be space?

The aygo could fit behind, but as my wife goes to work every day and I work from home, it is far from practical. I am actually looking to get my front garden changed so two cars can fit side-by-side. But being crap at things like that and unsure of how/where to do it and how to remove the front wall (if i need to even), I'm unsure of what it involves. Something I do want to do long term though is make the drive way wider, I hate gardening too so replacing grass etc with a driveway is welcome in my eyes.

I have tried to put my 370z further up the drive but because of the wide nature of my car and the long doors then if I'm parked up at the gate I cannot get out the car cos there isn't room to open the car doors.

As for the stones they were there before I moved into the street.

But short term the issue of the parking is resolved now anyway..... my wife parks where I posted the orange box earlier, nobody has a problem with that (inicluding him). But the fact remains my neighbour is a ****-womble for making a fraud claim. My wife told me today that one of the neighbours across the other side of our road had a massive run in with him about 5 years ago - before we moved into the street, and it was apparently all down to the fact that they put their bins out onto the street on Saturday evening when the bin day is Mondays and my neighbour didn't like it - and it was the other side of the god damn road. My neighbour just seems to be one of those people who enjoy hassle for the sake of it.

Try moving them? Then she can park in front of your house on the other side of the lamp post. I mean, with a tiny car like the Aygo she could probably get away with it as it is.

Not currently, but once the weather picks up and I find time I want to flatten my drive so 2 cars can fit side-by-side.
But currently it is this.

Like I have said, she is now parking here and nobody has an issue with that now. The parking location is resolved now.

It's just the dodgy attempt to claim for a collision.
