There's been a motoexpo at canary wharf this week so went down this afternoon to take a look around. Saw some nice cars, Alfa 8C is beautiful, R8 is nice, also got invited to have a look at the new M3 that they had tucked away in it's own little building, apparently the only one in the country. Odd thing is the launch colour is white, apparently it's to show off the carbon fibre roof and wing mirror surrounds, looks very nice.

Anyway, im amongst all this were some car clubs such as ecurie25 and clubgt. Basically you pay a yearly fee ranging from 2k to 14k depending on which club (quality of cars varies) and you get a certain amount of points to spend with nicer cars and weekends costing more. Lower end of the spectrum is Caterhams and exige's, top end is Murcielagos and F430's etc.. The best one seems to be ecurie, you pay 10k and get 600 points which covers you for roughly 40 days motoring a year (you can see how to spend it on their site). For someone that lives in London and potentially could afford a decent car but can't justfiy it this seems like a good solution. I go away fairly often and would love to ponce around in a Gallardo or 911 turbo, what are peoples thoughts on this? Worthwhile or not?

One of my workmates went to this yesterday and was on about the lambo with 10k advertisement in it for these schemes. I say definitely worthwhile if you have the money to do it

Damon Hill runs one called P1 which he constantly plugs in the sunday times when clarkson is away.

Not actually a bad idea when you consider the horrific depreciation and maintenance costs of cars like the zonda etc, which, realistically you wouldn't drive everyday anyhow.

One of my mates does the photos for Ecurie25, they seem to be well established and have been running for a while now. I wouldn't touch any with a bargepole unless they have been established for some time and you can actually see the cars. There have been plenty of these type clubs in the last couple of years who have tried to sell points in cars they don't even own and have then scarpered with people's cash very quickly.

It's a nice idea and the costs are pretty reasonable, however the feeling of owning a car and driving around in a rented one are not the same thing at all.
