Car cover?

Hi All

I have no garage just a lot of space / hard standing driveway. I work away most weeks so really get downhearted when I come home to bird **** on one of my cars.

Are car covers worth it? Heard of car covers themselves damaging the car!

Any other options??

Heard so many things about condensation problems it really puts me off but drives me mad coming home to bird **** on my freshly washed / waxed car

Also, if it's windy the cover rubs on the paintwork and makes it go hazy. I'd only use a car cover inside or as a temporary cover (at a car show etc).

Have you considered a free standing car port if you don't want to go the full garage route?

I've got a decent cover for my MX5 and the paint does look dull after taking it off. 6 months of it flapping about in the wind is going to take its toll no matter what the material is. It does also trap moisture in.

If it wasn't for the roof leaking and the rear window being susceptible to the elements I probably wouldn't bother.

I'll probably just not bother, seem to always come to this conclusion. I would try a plastic tent type thing as mentioned above but worried it would just blow over and cause more problems

I've been building a carport recently;

It's not freestanding but it would be fairly easy to transfer the design to legs on both sides rather than fixing to the house. It's around 10m long by 2.5m wide and also extends around the corner of the house.

It's constructed from C16 grade timber, the roof is corrugated plastic sheets which are flashed to the walls and have so far proven to be very water tight.

I plan on adding a large steel gate between the 1st and second post to provide some extra security along with addition covering down the side to stop wind/water ingress. I'm in the process of extending the patio underneath the car port and adding some LED security lights and fluorescent work lights. I might add up a post in the house section detailing the build process later.
