I had to have the device plugged in (lights flashing) turn on my BT for 30 sec's search for it I think my code was 1234 then connect.

I can't tell which version you have because I'm at work and ebay is blocked but that's what I did for mine.

I bought this one

New Vgate ELM327 Bluetooth OBD 2 Mini Adapter Fit Andriod Torque backwards

There's no buttons on the adaptor and yes all switched on, the eBay seller said the below, unless it's a standard response he didn't get the drift that I'm not using it through a PC or basic English.

Hello friend,
Thanks for your patience.
Could you pls do a favor that check if these does not forget to do when test the item?
When install it,you must turn off anti-virus software on your computer, not anti-virus operations.
secondly, prior to installation, do not you start the car.
Third, 327 pairs of Bluetooth software requirements to 2.0 software to connect , you can start the car when connection is successful, then you can see all kinds of information.
Forth, turn on your computer. Start the Bluetooth.. Now you can connect, and do other steps.
If you do all these, and same result, please email us back,we will fix it asap.
Regards

His english maybe just isn't great and didn't undesrtand the question properly. Regardless it shouldn't matter whether you're connecting via a laptop or your phone the bluetooth standard is the same.

What's the handset? If you've got the ignition lights all on and the unit itself has all the required lights on then I don't see any reason you shouldn't be able to connect to it. As before the only thing I can think of is to make sure the handset is set to discoverable and that you try searching for the adapter from within both torque and the handsets own bluetooth menu. Might be worth unpairing the phone from the car if you have any automatic bluetooth connection, though again I can have the automatic pairing still turned on with the adapter still being recognised.

I've used my desire and now galaxy S2 with torque without any difficulties. My adapter is different to yours but still an elm327 clone so shouldn't work any differently.

If it still refuses to find the adapter could you try another phone? Doesn't need to be android you're only looking for the adapter itself, if nothing can find it then it may well be faulty.

Just had a look and my adapter shows up as somethign fairly random in my bluetooth menu - CBT

I like! Just ordered a reader and cradle off ebay. The live view stuff looks especially interesting - especially as my car trip meter consistently overestimates mpg (generally reports 50-60mpgs when I actually get 35-45) - so I wonder what I can glean..

Picked up an ODBII device from ebay for £12. It arrived yesterday. Plugged it in, paired it with my phone and used 1234 as the pair code, connected straight away and all (most) of the stuff works. Very accurate too. No fault codes, but that's because I don't have any! LOLOLOL

Got it all working, whilst great and lots of info not something for everyday use, however I am using Torque free, what do you get extra with the paid version?

can't remember but if I open mine (paid) i can do:

GPS aided 0-60 guestimated times etc
Realtime monitoring displayed either via charts or dials etc
Fault codes
Charting (i.e proper logging )with save and export
add plugins
Seperate profiles for different vehicles

Think that's about it really, can't honestly remember what the free version does or doesn't do - might even just not have adverts or something similar

Any ideas if it's possible to add a custom gauge that shows oil pressure and temperature for an ST220?
