Hello All

Currently have a 59 plate Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart. It's just about to hit 70k miles and I'm thinking I should cash in while it's value is still ok and before anything major goes wrong with it. I should be able to get around 7 - 7.5k I think.

My plan is to get a M240i in the next 18 months to 2 years (either lease or second hand, not decided yet) but I'll need something in the meantime. As I'm looking to keep some money back my budget is going to be around 4k give or take. I've been looking at manual 330D's, look like I should be able to get a 06'ish plate with under 120k miles for that. Decided on that car as the performance is similar and that if my M240i plan goes **** up it should be able to last me for an extended period.

I'd like some suggestions for alternatives to the 330D, performance is important for me as is reliability (I know I'm probably asking for a bit much) and I'd like petrol / diesel consumption to be better than my Ralliart. Other than happy to consider whatever, even 2 seaters.

Yeah some looked bad but there are a few which look decent. Just missed out on one yesterday. Happy for suggestions to alternatives.

I'm sure your Celica looked like a tidy motor from the outset.

I bought that without seeing any pictures of it remember. :p

I am capable of buying decent cars these days I think. Just I chose not to with my latest one. :D

I'd say you can definately get a decent one for less than 4k. Car throttle recently did a series on modifying a 330d to be faster than an E92 M3 and the car itself before modifications cost £1800

Think they praised the reliability at the end of the series because it didn't go wrong even though they were constantly tracking it and driving the balls off it.

If the next purchase is essentially a stop gap to a M240i I'd go down the sensible route and grab a run of the mill cheap to run motor like a focus or civic. A significantly lower risk of an unexpected costly bill. You shouldn't lose too much on it after 18 months either. Just my 2p.

There's not many Ralliart's with much more mileage than mine for sale. I don't really like Focus' or Civics.

You want to cash out of a car before it goes wrong to buy a cheap Porsche which are renowned for going wrong.

With logic like that i can only assume you are a woman.

Its not even pretty. Or particularly quick. In addition to being potentially costly to maintain. :p
