I went and spent a small fortune on wash stuff for my LCR and bought a proper chamois leather.

However I've noticed that recently there are very small slight scratches in places that previously had nothing on there and I'm wondering whether the Chammy is responsible. I haven't dropped it but it has picked up black grime from the underside of the car where I have missed bits with the wash mitt :o ( i ahve of course tried to remove the grime before continuing to dry the car)

So do I scrap the Chammy and buy a proper drying cloth?

I really do NOT want to be t-cutting unneccessarily.

On T-Cutting, I have a really old T-cut in a jar that my dad gave me. it must be 15 years old. It seems to work but its a pig to get off prior to waxing. Maybe thats contributing to surface scratches in itself!!! How ironic!

Do I bin that and get a new one assuming the technology has improved in the last 15 years?

EDIT: Another thought. I've been using the same foam applicator pad for the NXT wax now for the last 4 applications. Should I be using a new one each time?

I use a Meguiars water magnet thing, it's brilliant...

...for a week.

Mine sucks so badly now, for what appears to be no reason at all.

A proper quality waffle-weave drying towel is what you want.

not had a problem with my water magnet still works as it should. Whats wrong with yours, i can't see much going wrong with a bit of cloth :p

Did you wash it with conditioner or something?

Only thing I can think is that its picked up some wax off the paintwork, as all my "magnet" now does is move water around the car, smearing it rather than soaking it up.

Sonus Ultimate Drying towels or Der Wunder drying towels are what you want, great towels will suck up a whole cars water easily.

I use a high quality chamois and havent noticed any scratches.

However, it is going black in places now :( Im wondering how the hell you wash them? Washing Machine? Surely you cant Daz them!

To dry the car i use a "Squeegy" (a silicon thing to drag the bulk of water off the car) then use 3 or 4 microfibre towels

Flip the cloth over, the poles need to be opposites ;)
