My 60 reg Focus failed MOT - got a phone call and asked if I could pop round to garage and take off my car cam and Snooper speed camera unit he would pass it - Car cam is higher than interior mirror but Snooper just stuck down below sun visor so I could see my speed on it.

All passed ok now -- ordered another bracket for Roadhawk and should get it up another 25mm or so and will take snooper off next time.

Shock was £54 for MOT - last one I had was £35.

So did he fail it because the camera and snooper obstructed the drivers view?

£54 is the going rate for an MOT. £35 would have been a discount somewhere (like KwikFit, who always seem to have a £35 offer on)

I see loads and loads of MOT stations offering MOT for £35-40 even main dealers..
Not the type to over-exaggerate faults to try and get you to spend money with them to repair the faults either.

That reminds me, I normally take my dash cam out for MOTs as I don't like them to think that I don't trust them with the car, completely forgot today!

Passed but with the first advisory since 2006 for the MX-5. O/S/R brake binding slightly :o

Oh and it cost me £35 :p

Mine stays in all the time and turned on, the one time it is taken out would probably be the time something happens, sods law and all that.

My last MOT was £45 last December.

Mr Clutch MOTs are £23, I took both of my BMWs there last year. One failed on front pads on one side which were indeed worn but I replaced them for about £12. I can't believe how much people pay for MOTs - more than I paid for MOT and pads!

£54 is the maximum they can charge. Most don't bother charting this.

Heck even my local main dealer does it for half that price. And thats a main dealer. Go somewhere else next time.

If people leave things stuck to the screen I take them off, pass & advise. Too much hassle failing it for something like a satnav holder.

As above.

Everything we take for MOT that has things stuck to windscreen or crap hanging off the mirror, comes back from the test with all the stuff on the passenger seat.

Great idea until you get the first complaint that you broke something as you pulled it off the screen.
Not in the motor trade, but surely doing that just opens you up for claims.

I live in small village and this was local garage - As we now only have one car it was easier to take it there and walk home - I hate waiting for MOT to be done more than waiting in dentist.

I think the camera and snooper especially were in arc of wiper.

Not sure how much I paid last year as it was done with service at main dealer.

Taken from the MOT testing guide:

Class IV Test Guide - 8.1 said:
Where items are present in the driver’s view (such as a sat nav, air freshener etc) that would justify a Reason for Rejection, the tester may, at their discretion, remove the items prior to the inspection. This fact should be noted on an Advisory Notice.

If things break, I'm not too sure what would happen to be honest. But testers have every right to remove things.
