Car for £2.5k

I really would not be looking to spend that on a five year old Focus.
It will either on very high miles or a tatty peasant spec model.

As an absolute minimum £3500 is required, which is outside the budget of £2500.

£2500 is really not enough for a good spec, good nick MK2 Focus. It is scraping the barrel at the bottom end of the market, which is almost always a disaster.

My Ghia was just under £2500, 05 plate with 78k. Interior is/was spotless but the exterior was a bit beaten up. Main thing was a dent (probably parking accident) in the rear passenger door, dealer tidied it up decently enough for the price.

£3500 almost got me an 07 plate Zetec with 60k but my budget wouldn't go that far without parental help so I passed on it.

What about a fiesta then?

Traditionally speaking a similar spec/condition Fiesta will cost more than a Focus, both to buy and insure. Unless you are in a rush you can easily take your time and find a decent Focus since they are so common.

The Mondeo is tempting but I am not so keen on a large car at the moment. I do appreciate you get a lot of bang for buck!

Almost every 1.6 Focus (2006) I find below £3k is a Cat D or Cat C, the only one I can find which seems clear thus far is the one I linked above. Searching 100 miles from where I am (W5).

£2.5k will get you a low mileage 2008 focus

My local ford dealer offered me £2k for my 2007 focus 1.8 zetec climate with 39,000 on the clock. You have another £500 so should be able to get something pretty decent

You can't buy cars at trade price, and it sounds like you got done over if you accepted that offer. The cheapest 2008 Focus with <50k is nearly five grand.

No it most certainly will not. I sincerely hope you didn't accept that offer !
