Car for a very short commute and some fun at the weekends?

The fact that if it's raining when I get out of bed, it'll take me ten minutes to put the hood up, pushing in all the poppers etc. The Caterham would be a weekend-only option really, rather than one that needs to be relied upon for commuting also.

Then leave the roof on at this time of the year.

If you want a true and fun drivers car, there is no other choice than a 7-Type vehicle or an Elise/VX220.

I was under the impression that it would be used for the very short commute only occasionally?

Elise
VX220
350Z or Z4 if I can't swallow the 'rawness' of the above and want some more cylinders.

That's my list, off I go to find some! Seems strange to have the Z4 and 350z in with the Exige and VX220 as they're totally different really, but I'll have to discover how different on my test drives.

Its the Elise not the Exige that is in your list/budget.

I would say its fairly common to be deciding between these cars, if people find that the Elise/VX220 is far too much effort (especially over winter or as a day-to-day proposition) they can usually be found in something else special like the 350Z/Z4.

Is a 350Z special at all? I looked at one to replace my lightly modded S14 200sx but found it felt very lardy and not that quick. The strut brace across the boot also made it very impractical considering it's quite a large car.

Another car that may be worth looking at is the Z3m coupe (edit: Strange this gets suggested within minutes)

Why would you be looking at a 350z for a practical car? It's a sports tourer with 2 seats?!

Hmmm, I have been contributing to this thread and due to my circumstances changing rapidly at work, I might be in a similar position with about £20k to fund a fun weekend car...might have to create my own thread for that though.

Definately fire up your own thread!
If your spanking 20 large on something fruity it is more than worthy of its 5 mins of fame!

Would it not be better to sell the Zed and get a comfy weekday car and then a proper mad weekend car. I can't imagine many people running a 350Z as a daily with a second weekend car

I'll only do it when I know for sure what is happening for my job next year....if I am honest I have a very good idea of what I want, but need it sense checked and make sure that all the options are covered in case I forgot to check out a certain car :D

I think that's what will happen if I want to keep my house deposit money!

.

It was the closest thing in Nissans line up to a 200sx and one of the few rwd sports coupes available that isn't either crap or German. For me it doesn't work as a sports tourer as the boot is rubbish and it's not fun enough to use only when practicallity isn't an issue.

+1

That Z3M and the Z3's in general are imo the worst looking cars BMW have made in a long time!

I used to think this. They have aged very, very well though imo, see them now and think.. wow, did I really think that looked bad? The MCoupe in particular.

You're very wrong if you're including the coupe in that. That imo is one of the best looking cars BMW have ever made. Normal Z3's are crap though :)
