Because I'm also loathed to get rid for sentimental reasons and I'd like a quick fix for it!
Still think its the MAP sensor? I've found a few for £17 here and there and may get one cheaper at a scrappy!
the MAP and MAF are 2 different sensors, at least on most cars. The MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor would traditionally sit after the airbox and before the intake manifold. The MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor lives on the air intake manifold and it probably isn't that. The MAF will likely be more expensive than the MAP. If you can find one for not much money then you can try just changing it, but it's a scatter gun approach to resolving a problem when you haven't performed the test described and second hand units can be hit and miss - what if you change it and the unit you receive is broken as well? They're sensitive items. You could be chasing your tail for ages.
Who cares if you have an error in the short term? Just unplug the connector and take it for a drive. The car will be fine, it will just use the default air values. It may not even throw a code if you only take it for a short run
How much is it for a garage to clear the codes anyway? How much is a cable to clear the codes on a ford yourself? It is that exorbitant? personally I'd pick up a cable and do it myself, even if it isn't the MAF it'll likely tell you what is actually causing the problem and it'll help with any future issues. Your fiesta forum will tell you the best way to go about doing this for the least amount of cash
