Afternoon all,

First let me say that I am thoroughly incompetent in the ways of auto mechanics, essentially I know they go brum brum and that's largely it :)

Now, the problem is this, the other day my wife said that on the way home from work her civic was making a quite loud "whooshing" (her words) noise. She said it was coming from the front of the car, drivers side. It was regular, making a whoosh noise every few seconds, whoosh.....whoosh.....whoosh... but only did it from 60mph upwards.

Now today, she says its now "whooshing faster" , still at around 60+ but now whooshwhooshwhooshwhoosh , constantly.

Any thoughts ? A mate said maybe fan belt. Sound right?

Someone sneakily fitted a turbo?

Hehe, with the length of time she takes to get ready to drive anywhere, a turbo would be useful. :)

The "whooshing" description probably isnt much help, thats how she described it, a kind of shhh.....shhhh.....shhhh....shhhh... noise. She said at first she thought it was wind or something, but then today noticed that it was constant (at 60+) Dont know if that helps anyone.

That'll be the wheel bearing or the bare steel of the brake pads eating their way through the disc.

Why don't you take the car out for a spin with her to get some first hand whooshing?

Thought about it, but as I know nothing at all about cars I figured that all it would achieve is 2 people saying whooshing :)

Read a bit about wheel bearings and that sounds potentially dangerous so we will check it into a garage on monday and get them to look it over.
