Hi there, I checked my car today on askmid and it said it's not on the database, I have been paying my insurance and got the certificate etc I don't understand why it's not showing insured. The only thing I can think off I my dad put a private plate on for my birthday. We changed all the insurance over to the new plate and got the document and it's spelt correctly. I am with quinn direct just wondered if anybody knew anything about it.

Cheers Phil

Quinn Direct are notorious for not updating MID - I think it has something to do with them being Irish. That said, didn't Quinn go bust months ago?

I'm with them and added a private numberplate near Christmas and it's showing on askmid. Maybe there just slow?

They did stop however they kept all the current policies running as per normal untill they finished. Though I think they are back up again?

dont think the mid database gets updated straight away, just checked the old mans company car that he got today and its not on it (funily enough niethers his old mondeo that he's had for the last 4 years strange

They went into administration but still insure me. I am going to bell in a few months. I might just give them a call but theres no reason why it shouldn't show!

I put the certificate in the car today so hopefully I won't get stopped but you will never know!

Check with your insurance Co. that YOU are insured, better safe than sorry.

As Dr Rozzer will not care, when he takes your car for no insurance.

After a plate change my merc showed as uninsured on that website for AGES. I never got pulled dispite thousands of miles of driving in and around london, through tons of ANPR, etc etc.

I can only assume that the police themselves and the ANPR system use a more up to date database than that website..

Worth bumping this, was reading elsewhere someone fined 210 for no insurance despite being insured due to insurance company not registering and then he was held liable by his own work (nhs) for the towing and storage fees, etc

Think I seen them scanning motorways drumming up the revenue on this kind of thing now

I'd like to hear otherwise, do the police compound refund the fees if you later prove the database was incorrect.
Im told they dont, afaik towing firm, etc is a private enterprise licensed by police to the highest bidder

I just saw this was bumped it just so happened I was pulled over a few days after I posted this, the police said I was not insured showed them the documents explained quinn are slow at updating and they didn't belive it all heard it 100 times taking away my car kind of police. He wandered off to his car took my keys and said he would be back in 5. He sheepishly walks back and said "on your way mate!" they had confirmed it and I was insured. He said that it should all be updated now. I have not been pulled over since so hopefully it will be sorted!

this problem isnt just with quinn direct, a few companies 'never bother' to update the MID which results in their customers being pulled over and might be on the side of the road for a good 30 / 40 minutes before it gets sorted out.
as for police refunding the fee's they dont,
if its later proved you did have insurance you wont have the points awarded and you can get your insurance company to pay all your fee's and any loss of earnings etc.
usually the fault of the vehicle/policy not being on the database is on the end of the insurance company. not yet come accross a case where the MIB or police have had to pay out.

It's a requirement now that the database must be updated within 7 days of the insurance being taken out.

For a company vehicle it is the responsibility of the policy holder to inform MID, but I don't know if that is the driver or the people who have sourced the car.
