Car not showing insured on askmid

^

I don't really believe that.

I do

judging by the treatment one of Maz's customers on here got.

His customer was insured for 7 days on his traders policy. Police demanded he photocopy proof of insurance right now at 2 in the morning or something before they would release the car and not tow it.

for the coppers Computer database > all.

Its quite easy to see how the police could tow a car for it not being on the database and that person being unable to proove at the roadside he has insurance due to not carrying the documents with him (or at all if its a company car)

coppers have to rely on a computer database,
a certificate of insurance is not proof of insurance.
people can buy a policy, get their certificate then cancel the policy.
they still have what appears to be a valid certificate. without a computer database how do you verify the bit of paper?

this old fashioned thing called a phone, where you ring the insurance company at the roadside and ask if the policy is still active ;)

which will be on a computer database with the insurer :P

usual process is check on the police national database
then check with the motor insurance bureau.
if the car isnt on the motor insurance database then the MIB will phone up the company the driver claims to be insured with, and all is revealed

Thats what they did for me, he was gone a good 10 mins or so came back with a form to sign saying no further action and to explain to my employer.

Insurance details are only held on MID not PNC directly.
