We have a Range Rover as well, so that is covered. This is to replace my ST which is becoming problematical, It has to be a four seater, but not necessarily a 4 door.:)

If Ford made a newer Mondeo ST then I would have bought one of those (unless it was a dog, which is unlikely)

I know what you mean about choice though, there is also the BMW 3 series coupe (I dont like the Saloon) or the 5 series to consider I suppose or I could up the budget a bit for the A5 (The wifes weapon of choice)

Just out of curiosity did you try a vRS or a standard Octavia? I'm not keen on the handling of the standard ones at all but the vRS is quite different.

I've got a similar problem to you - I've got an old Octavia 1.8t 4x4 that's been such a good car I am really struggling to know what to replace it with. I've had it 9yrs from new and a simple swap of a temp sensor was the first thing I've had to do to the car other than a service every 20k miles and a single cam belt change (4 years late - oops)! It's the 4WD i'll really miss though especially as I tow a large trailer with it. There just doesn't seem to be anything at sensible money that does the job as well! I'll follow with interest on what you end up with.

I test drove the vRS last year and compared to the ST, well tbh it didn't compare that well.

I am going to have to test drive everything to find out I suppose. Knowing me I'll end up with something completely different. When I bought the ST 7 years ago I was actually looking for a Merc...
 
Have you looked at the new Mazda6? I highly recommend this car.

I currently have the older model and it's the best car i've owned.

You can get a 10 plate for 16k ;)
