Hi All,

My sister is after a new car and I thought I'd check here for a few recommendations. Specs are -

Budget - Less than 4k.
5 Door with reasonable boot (has two young kids), ideally a hatchback.
She does less than 7k a year, so I guess petrol.
It'll need to be fairly modern and safe.

Let me know if I've missed anything..

She's just sold her Punto, which was far too small, and only a 3 door which was a massive pain with child seats etc. She's been looking at a few cars, one of which is a Megane; this is probably a terrible idea.

Thanks for any help. :)

Ford focus new shape maybe ?

You mean Mk2 Focus, not the new new shape Mk3 I hope :P

Focus is best shout, even a Mondeo as it has ridiculous amounts of room in the back, has a huge boot and you'll get more car for the same money.

I've pointed her at the focus, she's going to go look at a 1.6 megane this weekend however, oh dear. Any particular reason to avoid these? :(

Fiat Bravo (2007 onwards).

Someone I know recently got a 2007 for £3500, and she paid extra to get the 150bhp engine. No one considers them so they have no value. I'm sure you can get the 1.4 90bhp for practically nothing these days.

Example 2

Cheers guys, have passed on a few suggestions, I don't want to get too vocal about anything as if something goes wrong I'll most likely get in trouble.:p

What reasons can I give about the meganes, are they unreliable? Poor quality in some way? I've not suggested she looks at them, she's gotten the idea herself.
