So I have been made redundant and have to hand the company car back... well maybe, I could also buy it.

No idea what to get.

Budget £10k. Car must be suitable for a family of 5.

Diesel is a must. Obviously want as new and low mileage as possible.

On searching, loads of Lancers seem to fit the bill but I know nothing about them - Why are they so cheap? Also loads of Insignia's. I used to have a Vectra - not sure how much the insignia advanced on from the old Veccy?

My other option is to buy the company car, but its a bit small - 2012 BMW 116ES with 60k on the clock. It's a nice car, but doesn't have any toys and despite only being two years old I have hammered the miles on it. Been quoted £10,500 for it by the lease company.

Any recommendations? I drive mainly motorway, so comfort is a must

Is it the new shape car? If not that's no sort of deal as far as I can see

Also I assume you now have another job hence considering a car?

Yeah it is the new shape. I don't have a new job sorted yet no, but odds are I will have to look for a different job that doesn't come with a car this time.

Is that a fair price?

The logical thing is to buy it now while you're unemployed, then part ex it for something better once the income starts rolling in again.

It's a bit small and has no toys, but it's been well maintained and you know the history.

My 2p anyway :)

To be honest, i wouldnt buy the company, it would be pretty hard to shift a bottom of the range high miler.

10k is a funny budget for some decent and newish though.

The price sounds OK, doesnt look though its worth much more than that but I would t be spending 10 grand on a car whilst I was unemployed.

If you pick another job up and happen to need some wheels urgently a grand and a weekend on eBay/Gumtree/auto trader will sort you out temporarily.

"Funny" budget how?

The budget isn't an issue - I will get a decent lump sum pay out and a car is essential if I'm working or not due to my circumstances.

I've seen a few 60/61 plate mondeo titanium X's within budget - seems like a decent car?

Even with a decent pay out, sensible hat on says pick something up for a grand or so and see how things play out.

£3k even if you've money in the bank, will get you a reasonable car and keep plenty of just in case cash
