Hi,

I went into a dealership today with intention of purchasing a new car utilising the scrappage scheme. So that is £2000 off the the OTR price of the car. However, am I being foolish to expect for some other reductions on the car?

The sales guy said it was "fixed price" the offer, clearly it can't be - I ended up walking out of the place with little fight from the salesperson to sell me something.

Anyone got any deals on the scappage - I'm now thinking to not even bother with the scrappage.

For what it is worth, I was offered various bits and pieces "thrown in" on a prospective deal on a Toyota Yaris by mentioning that I was also considering a Hyundai i20 - I ended up buying the i20 which is better specced, cheaper and has better rear seat headroom - the rear seat headroom on the Yaris is awful, even with it slanted backwards.

I would ALWAYS make a point of mentioning some other specific car(s) that you are looking at and what they offer that this particular car doesn't.

Too offer you £1000 off a car out of their own pocket, of course they arent going to let you haggle some other deals out of them. They will have inflated the price to cover their £1000 loss and thats what you pay.

Under normal buying conditions you could probubly haggle a grand off a new car, but in this case, thats done for you by taking your old car off your hands... rather than you sellign it and pocketing the cash....
