Since my car has just run out of its 3 year warranty I thought I'd get it serviced at an independent VAG specialist whilst I'm back home in Ireland. the car has just turned 3 years old and has 21k on the clock. This is what was done.

Oil change
Oil, air and pollen filter change
Additional pint of gear oil
Check, clean and adjust brakes all round
Inspection of suspension and exhaust components
Check for fault codes
Adjustment of headlights
Check of all fluid levels and top up if necessary

All that for £77.40.

So, has anything been missed out at all? I thought it was a bit cheap considering the last service cost me over £200 at Seat. I was expecting the local specialist to be cheaper, even moreso because it's in Ireland but I really wasn't expecting that.

I'm not complaining! I just can't help but feel it was a bit too cheap :o

That's a fantastic price for a specialist. My parents pay over twice that to have their Passat serviced at the local indie. That's basically what theirs has done for a 'minor' service.

Sounds like a great price - I'd imagine the bits would have cost nearly half of that.

Did they say it was normal that it needed a pint of gearbox oil though?

I didn't query it but I did ask if everything looked fine on it and if anything was showing any signs of wear and tear but he said it was all in great condition. The gearchange feels the same as before too, whether or not that makes a difference I don't know though.

Is your car a Golf?
Just a friend is a VW specialist who said he's had a couple blow gearboxes at really low mileage. When they went in for a rebuild the engineering company said they had run low on oil.

Wish my car only cost that much to service :(

AFAIK everything in the service is the same, providing it's only oil and filters that need swapping it should cost the same. It when something needs replaced that yours can cost quite a bit more :p

Seat Toledo 20VT although AFAIK it uses the normal VAG 6 speed manual box.
