Where do you work, Greypaul Ferrari!?
Jack Barclay Bentley

.
With labour at £150/hr and a sump full of Mobil 1, things soon add up!
I believe a first year's service on a GT is around the £850 mark, and that's relatively minor in terms of what is changed (Oil, filter, pollen Filters & Washer Fluid!

). A 'Major' service (4th year), That's for Oil, Filter , Pollen Filters, spark plugs, Intake manifold gasket and air filters and you're well into the £1,500 region.
I wouldn't say so. I got advisories for deteriorated bushes 'not resulting in any movement'. It's a pretty comprehensive check and probably more complete than a mechanic just having a quick 'look' at the car.
As far as I'm concerned, the "quick look" check over is what you're paying the large chunk of the service cost for. Any idiot with a fisher price "My First tool kit", trolley jack and the correct parts can change oil, filter and spark plugs. What any idiot cannot do is know exactly how something works and how something does not work. Any idiot won't have the eye for detail that us "professionals" for spotting faults, or know where to look for them.
An MOT doesn't require the wheels to come off, I've had my car given back at one MOT station (not my company's may I add!) and told "I think there might be a problem with your brakes, but I can't see your discs and pads through your wheels, so I cannot be sure... Anyway, here's your certificate"

. On any service - Wheels off, Discs are measured to see if they are within the manufactures tolerances and a proper visual inspection of both inner and outer brake pads and if they are noticeably worn, they are taken out of the calliper and measured individually. The time whipping off the callipers alone would eat up the 45-odd minutes they give for a MOT, Heck, I spend about 45 minutes on my interior check alone when I'm doing a service!
