so i thought i'd blown my rear speakers 6x9's - as they sounded well off.

I bought a new pair and stuck them in. Now these are new 6x9 meant to be very bassy and the like.

They sound extremely tinny. On messing about with the settings, if i alter the balance and the fade so that all the output is going to one rear speaker it sounds OK - ish.

i'm therefore wondering if it's a problem with the actual head unit (a 3year old Sony Mp3 unit)

any thoughts?

i tried switching it round so positive was negative, and vice versa = no change

strangely the speakers in the front sound normal, loud and bassy.

Then HU probably cant deliver suffient power to get the speakers moving properly. As stated get an amp and it will sound better. The HU rating will be PMPO and not RMS. RMS is probably circa 15-20W.
