Hell!! \m/
Basically I have a car which was stolen a week or so back, it was found smashed in alittle (but not burnt out). Now the police I contacted and they quickly recovered the car as thier were other complaints over dangerious driving - the car was towed to a garage, I gave the police my details and everything. I got a letter days later that the car was impounded however they want £150 then £20/day and maybe even more for a "specialist fee".

I am told to contact my insurance however I disscussed this with a few people and I am very unsure what to do. I never signed paper work or anything for some 3rd party garage to keep my car and bill me for it. I am told by someone that they had the same problem and contacted the police and the police said the gov pay for it and had it released free.

The car when i bought was worth on the insurance £1260, it's current value is probably £300 - if I can get the car back then sell for breaking. I don't and was told by people getting insurance involved is a bad idea as I'll get charged in the end a lot more next time.

Another option is to "leave" it as the insurance involvement and car value isn't worth it. However they said if I don't pay they dispose of at full cost to me, I know someone who drove UNINSURANCED for 6month and had thier car taken off them they just left the garage and it was distroyed and they never paid.

My insurance was £3400/year for £1260 pug 106 (I know it's a stupid price but that's that) - it's due up soon and they said to renew is only £2500 so it's a lot of money I am gonig to save. Could my insurance pay out the recovering of the car and I would sell for breaking rather than write off?

Anyone else had such a stupid situation?? CONFUSED.COM

No, I am serious - that's my renewal which is far better than £3400. Should I call the police and explain about the impound and why I am paying as the police took it and never mentioned ANYTHING about money. Someone said they do release it free if it's the police who impound it. I am told to contact my insurance but then I will be paying more next time.

Nothing ever works out, my neighbor last week had thier wheels stolen. They got it sorted now though but I ffriggin hate these kids

Ok please any advice on what to do with the car?.

The car was £1260. I tried many insurance compare sites and Admiral where the cheapest @ £3400 - it's to do with my area, age, unemployed (but I do some charity work). It was pretty much that price so I paid it. Someone I spoke to his duagter has a simiilar car and paid £4k to insure.

Renewal is £2500 so that's a lot better.

Yes I am that guy, now I am trying to get rid of it - I will eilther replace or wait till winter for a car (as I can bike everywhere)

This car has been stolen twice. The first time is ok now as I got £800 from them to replace/repair.

Haha, the sexy gene, I've got it, runs in my family. I need to make a derision with this car. I would leave it and let them scrap it but I am worried I will get letters asking for £thousands. It's because I am out of work if I put my old job in the insurance drops loads but I am out of work and looking. Maybe don't insure the car till I am working, eitherway I need to sort this.

I read it's like a scam, the police send car to a 3rd party garage - do thier thing and it's paid for by them, but the garage try and charge you again.

No the car was £1260 and 2003 and nice. Till it was stolen and trashed I got £800 from the parents over it. So now I got another issue.

1) Leave the car and let them crush it and I shouldn't really pay for it?

2) Call police and say it should be free to release the car

3) Get insurance involved? (no go)

4) pay and get ccar out and sell/breaking

Personally, I would pay up and get your car back, then strip it for parts. That way, you should break even and your insurance isn't involved. It's a bad situation really.

Hmm i wouldn't get your insurance involved at all! But... i was under the impression that if the POLICE had sent it to the impound then its free to reclaim your vehicle, some garages get paid it by the government then try and bill the owner of the vehicle too.

What other people said.

No dude, I went on loads of different sites and it would always be that price. I might try another requote and see but +1yr NCB

Are they legally allowed to scrap it?

Well they took it and want money, but I think they will yeah. I've not signed anything either.

I know I go on abit but seriously I need to get this sorted, if I paid £400 or whatever to get the car back, then I'd sell it for breaking but I doubt I'd break even. I

Your right I will go there and ask for it back. It's not the police, it's the garage who have it, they sent a letter saying it's £150 release and then £20/day and maybe a specialist charge. As for how I paid, it was from my savings account I have since I was a child. At 17/18 I started learning to drive then passed but insurance I couldn't afford, 3 years later I get a car. Nothing I can do about the prices, it's the way it is sadly. However it is dropping

and yes I reported it stolen.

I don't use drugs, hardly anymore and never have whist driving because that's completly stupid. I am only on prescribed Concerta for my add and buprenorphine for maintence (I am allowed to drive on this as I have declared to the DVLA). I have worked and had jobs but not right now. I've got tonnes of letters and phone calls tomorrow to make for finding work.

Anyway please stay on topic........

Haha yeah awesome. Someday when I bang hot chicks they might end up knocked up and we'll be a family and my sons will have the sexy genes too. Or we'll end up on J. Kyle.

I bought my bed for £260 and it's lovely, not got an aqaurium though and I got my TV years a dam long time ago,

and that coat I never bought but it was nice. I genunely want to work or be self employed in the future and run a bussniess, I've applied for some computer repair stores by posting letters to addresses so wish me luck on that. I am open to any jobs though.

No luke I am sending them to correct ones, I sometimes get calls or letters.

Bloody hell, if your FB page is anything to go by I'm glad you're not driving.
You seem to have an awful lot of disposable income for someone out of work. I'd stick to taxi's, you can clearly afford them.

Oh, and
Really?

Yeah says Jermary Clarkson in a clip of Top Gear back in the days.

As for 106's I really like them, I can't insure a big car - my insurance is bad enough but small cars aye - 106 is awesome, you might not think so but that;s you, I love 'em.

Atomic, thankyou - this is pretty much what I want to know. I will go tomorrow to the garage and should I mention it was stolen and try and get it out for free? but the car may be "undrivable" so they drop it off at mine?

What about if I do nothng and let them crush it. They said "at full cost to you"

Any tips on what to say?

Here is another story: (around here it's bad for thieft and car damage, everyone I know has suffered from some sort)

This was before I got my car, when this happened I decided to get a car, you can't even cycle about my area without having some sort of trouble.
Aye yeah, it's not only that I was ages ago mugged nearly for my road bike. I was in a shop and some idoit took off my front wheel and it was all the way at the end of the shops I quickly got my bike. It was full of scallies, I went towards my wheel (holding bike) and some stupid bitch threw it ontop of the roof, I wamted to run and drop the bike and grab the frigging thing but it clicked - it was a plan to steal my road bike (as they would all jump on me - was about 11 of them) but the girl ran and I managed to get home with it - I pretty much would have swong the ulock at them if they followed.

I reported to the police and they were next to useless - he told me it was a joke or prank and it bloody wasn't clearly. They said they would go and get the wheel for me from the roof which the day later they never then after calling they couldn't due to "heath and safety" and said to call the fire brigade but it's like £20-£30 she said.

Useless - the next morning I went with my dad and pretty much I climbed up and couldn't find it - so I guess it was stolen. £30 I got a another wheel but the money isn't the point.

OK thanks, the car WAS stolen when the woman came to take me there she mentioned another person reported it, loud revving or summit. Thanks I will talk with garage+police. I feel I;ve been alittle slow but willing to pay for my slowmess. I don't mind paying some but frig £150, £200 and specialist fees that's more than the car is currently worth.

I have NOT spoke to my insurance, the letter from garage says I should, but I do not want to get them involved as I pay enough.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks i will try 101 or when i get back go in person to my local police station. They will mention to tell my insurance but i doubt they will pay or do much and it will cost me a lot more. Or goto the garage and mention its police billed or should be?
