can't go wrong with an M3 
not much else out there that will beat it for your price range.
it seems that you're looking towards 'harder' cars, so something like a CL55 AMG or XKR wouldn't really appeal to you would it?
not much else i can think of really..
an Alpina B3 or B10 would probably be too soft too

Please dont try and argue that the M3 to a 3 Series is the same as the relationship of a Golf R32 to a regular Golf.
The Clio is an oddball choice but it's there not because its a Clio but more because its a mid engined oddity you cannot rationalise.
The Golf is a Golf.
