Right my car is currently SORN however if i tax it now online it takes 5 days for the disc to arrive. Can i drive it legally tomorrow if i have valid insurance & MOT?

Thanks :)

I think so, so long as you have applied for the tax disc as you have 5 days grace when your current disc runs out to display your new one (I know you dont have one but I guess the same rules apply as niether would have valid tax in theory). I applied for my disc during the week. It also turned up three days later of which there was the potal strike on, so I wouldnt worry about it.

You might get an on-the-spot fine if some rozzer sees you driving without a tax disc, but it should go away if you explain you're waiting for your tax disc to arrive in the post.

The offense would be failing to display so that implies that, whether you have paid or not, if it is not on display you will be breaking the law. However I'm sure that the police can probably check whether the car is taxed on the spot. In other words I dunno!

you'd have to find a copper having a really bad day to be done for failing to display when you are in the 5 day grace period.

interesting point about the having a valid one currently. could be worth looking into!

Personally I'd just drive the vehicle. It is very very unlikely you will get a fine for failing to display.

Can still be caught with an ANPR system though and the nice fine comes through the post.

Anyway, why would you want to tax the car now, you will either pay for nearly a complete month without using it, or it will start from 1st Nov.

But ANPR would register it as being taxed

Cant be caught by ANPR as it will have been taxed.

Auntie Dorris down the road could report him for failing to display a tax disk as could a traffic warden, pcso, police man or anyone else really !
