Ive just bought a car and the Tax is due. Ive got temporary insurance until my car insurance company is open.

Can I tax a car if it has temporary insurance? Or do I need a full years policy?

Cant imagine they would look that much into it, every time i tax my car at the post office they only glance at my documents.

Should be fine.

I always tick the box online when ordering mine, never had to send anything to prove I have valid insurance even though I do.

As the staff in the post office deal with hundreds of tax renewals they know exactly where to look on the paper work. That 'glance' is more than enough for them to determine if the MOT and insurance are valid for the date of the tax being taken out.

Hmmm interesting question whether you can tax a car with say one day car insurance. The car is insured, but it seems like to easy of a loophole.
