Ok guys, i've bought a car but I do need to tax it.

I've sorted my insurance today, but I need to change the registered owner to myself, how do I do this and how do I get in taxed?

Can I do them both at the same time? I think I need to be the registered owner before I can tax it though?

You and the seller need to complete the V5 (logbook) to change the registered keeper. The seller and you both sign it and then send it to the DVLA.

Before sending the V5 off remove the green slip (V5/2?) which can be used for 2 months to tax the vehicle. You will need your insurance certificate and if the vehicle is more than 3 years old MOT certificate as well.

You can tax it with the new keeper supplement without having to wait.

That's what my friend just told me on the phone.

Going to try get a cover letter e-mailed to me by Churchill now so that I can get it taxed on Monday.

After that though i'll need to sort the stuff with the log book, or will the new keeper supplement handle that?

Churchill will not send anything by e-mail (even a policy cover letter) - so i'll have to wait until the forms arrive within 4 working days to get tax sorted.

Grrr

Ahh :(

Ah well, I have to wait anyways which is a shame but I suppose I can live for another week without a car, i've managed 20 years.

For anyone who cares, I picked up a 2004 Clio 1.4I Expression with 36,100 miles for £2,800.

I was looking at a Focus but there wasn't any decent ones near by and this was only 40 minutes away.

Insurance wasn't paticularly cheap though!
