Hey guys, having a bit of trouble setting up my new Weber DCOE 45's. Im finding soon as i put my fuel pump on its pumping so much fuel into the carbs its coming out of the trumpets and also filling my bores up! If anyone on here is handy with carbs or know of a good website to have a read up on it would be great! I have set the fuel pressure to the recommended ammount as well!

Standard 2.0 Zetec with Twin DCOE 45.. About it really. I just wanna get the thing to idle then ill take it to be setup properly!

If it's coming out of the trumpets it's massively over-fuelling, do you have a pressure regulator? What pump is it?

EDIT

Just saw your comment about the pressure set to the recommended level, have you tried reducing the pressure?

Doesnt matter what pressure i run at, sooner or later it comes out of the trumpets. Im using a facet fuel pump, filter king fuel regulator and a guage which fits into the filter king. Im running out of ideas really?

I bought them second hand but they are brand new in a box never used. If that makes sense! Is there something i need to do adjustment wise first? Would it make a difference the car isnt running and ive just got the pump running?

How would i check if the floats have stuck? Sorry im just not very clued up on Carbs as i work on diesels for living :)

This make any sense?

For Initial Setup:

Check the FLOAT LEVEL.

Remove some fuel from the carbs and let the engine idle for two minutes. Remove the wingnut caps.

Use the depth gauge end of vernier caliper to measure from the top of the lower shelf to the top of the fuel surface.

DCOE spec = 1.14 inch (29mm+4.5mm).

If the depth is NOT correct, the top plate of the carburetor must be removed. Carefully bend the tab on the float assembly that touches the needle valve. Reassemble and test the float level as before.

The more I read it the more it sounds like the floats aint working. I take it because the floats aint working its just chucking fuel in and its gotta go somewhere I suppose? Ill check the floats tomorrow and report back!

Webers used to get sold with a basic Jet kit for the engine they'd be used on from the dealer when you bought them new, thing is, these Jet kits were only to get you running, the Carbs would need a proper set-up and tune on a rolling road ideally, there used to be an absolute Weber wizard in J & J Garage Blackdiamond Street in Chester who could jet them almost perfect just from having done them so many times, but he must be long retired now as he was about 65 twenty odd years ago, try give them a ring though they might be able to send you the right kit if they're still trading.

EDIT J&J's is long gone by the looks of it :( All newish build flats where it used to be on Google Maps... Might still be worth finding a Weber dealer elsewhere and asking them to send a Jet Kit for the engine though.

Im gonna get them setup on a rolling road, but to make sure the cars sound before i take it there i at least need it idling as the last thing i want is a coolant leak or something causing a problem on the rollers! Tis a nightmare as i aint even had the engine running in the car yet!

Thought id post a pic of the offending carbs in the car:

I got a painted rocker cover to go on but will wait till all the dirty work is done. Room was tight with the carbs in place so had to put 26mm trumpets on! Got a fair bit to do yet and tidy up wiring etc! If anyone wants a proper update ill make a thread if anyone is interested in the build?

Yep, sounds like the float isn't closing to me.

Not much room left in that engine bay. :p

Yep tell me about it! Especially as I attempted to take the spark plug out last week and it snapped in the head! :( Was a nightmare taking it off especially as I cant see the bottom pulley so timing it up was a nightmare!
