My mr2 is seriously fading on the front bonnet now rather than have it repsrayed, yes i do polish it but damn it still fades... I was thinking of getting a carbon bonnet not only for the looks  , but the weight saving and no need to respray it.

Anyone here fitted one does it feel lighter at the front or is it not noticable?

Not sure about the mk2 but weight saving at the front of a mk1 is generally seen as a bit pointless as the weight is already a little too much towards the rear and lightening the front will only emphasise this.

Oh and as a personal preference I think unpainted carbon bonnets look rubbish.

It'll save about 5Kg, not worth it.

Hmm thanks for the replies guys , while we are on the subject of weight saving what about bucket seats? surelly replacing the two with bucket seats would net a better weight loss...

They all need replacing anyway ( ripped leather , stained )

edit : no matter http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/weight.htm

ids till have the carbon painted, and its only really worth it if your going to try and save weight all over the car by repacing front seats and then ripping everything else out which results in it looking tatty and sounding rough if you remove the sound proofing too.

UV light eats carbon suprisingly quickly so if you do go for it definatley paint it, or have extra varnish (*Must* be two-pack) applied. If you want it varnished have at least 5 coats.

Waste of money if you don't.

I think in general carbon bonnets are a great idea. If I damaged my bonnet I would definetly but a carbon one as it would no doubt be cheap and lighter than OEM. However I really dont understand people leaving them unsprayed.
- Looks cheap and nasty IMO

Pleanty of performance cars with carbon panels now but they are all colour coded.
