Hey. Having just got home i've just realised I left my bank card in the ATM this morning :( , I was wondering does the ATM machine take the card back in if it isnt taken out soon enough, or will it just stay there for someone to take. Would be nice to know before I phone up and cancel it, looked around and can't see anything on the subject. Thanks :(

it sucks it back in if it has not been taken for a certain amount of time, unless some one nicked it of course.

But cancell it to be sure. Do you want to take the chance ?

how did you manage that :S

it wont give you money untill you take the card out to prevent this.

Machine will swallow it. If the card is issued from the same bank as the machine you can go in the branch and ask for it back. If it's different they normally shred it.

Can you not drive back to the ATM machine in question and see if it's still there? But to be on the safe side I would ring the bank straight away and cancel it, if you have a receipt from when you took money from it this morning, tell the bank that that was the last time you had money withdrawn and ask if it has been used since that time.

Call the branch, it will either be sucked back in, in which case the back can dig it out (assuming it hasnt been chopped for security by the ATM), some kind sole has handed it in, in which case some ID should facilitate retrieval or some evil menace has run off with it, in which case call your bank and cancel it...

Was just taking a statement out, took the statement and got distracted and forgot to take the card (Was in a bit of a rush aswell), not my finest moment :o

The ATM machine was the same branch as my account/card.

It was 8:30am when I was at the ATM, very much doubt it's still there, but that sounds the best idea to be safe.

Go back there NOW, and have a look, if its not there go into the bank.

You realy should do something about it before someone attempts to use it

The machine takes it back in, it will be taken out when the machine is serviced and taken to a service center where it will be shreded. Best off ringing your bank explain the situation to them and they will send you a new card.

Ring them up and put a temporary stop order on the card, if you can get it back then it can be removed but the first step is to protect your money despite the inconvenience.

I'm pretty sure it will just sit there until someone removes it.
If you don't know, why post? The machine takes the card back in. Think about it, why would the banks just leave people's cards lying around if they forget them?

The screen asking if you want to do anything else will time out pretty quickly (never done it myself, but should be within 60seconds). If there was no-one behind you, then the only place the card could have gone, is inside the machine. Branch staff won't always open up the machine for you, so I'd recommend calling them first if you want to try that.
I would recommend calling the lost and stolen department for your bank and getting the card cancelled asap. If the card has been out of your possession for any length of time, this is the best thing to do. I'm not sure about other banks, but cards ordered by lost and stolen at Natwest/RBS (apart from offshore and RBS cashline) come out special delivery within 4 working days, so it's not too long to go without a card.

can you get your statement without removing the card?.. sounds weird to me.. every ATM ive used you cant do anything without taking your card back..
