Are there any card readers that write to SD cards?

My Dad is looking at getting my Mum a digital Photo frame for Xmas, and one of the ones He's looking at doesn't have much internal memory, so I was thinking of buying a good sized SD card which could live in the photo frame but my only experience of an SD reader (one from a pound shop which reads really quickly) can't write to the card.

Wouldn't want to spend much as it's more of a supplimentary present, also ideally would be able to read XD cards as my Mums camera uses.

Any help appreciated.

Any multi card reader should be able to read/write lower capacity (up to 2gb) SD cards, and probably XD - cost anything from £2-25 depending on the exact model*.

If you can't write to a card, but can read it, the chances are it's "write protected", iirc SD cards have a little switch that can be flicked to prevent them being accidentally overwritten (same sort of thing as ye olde floppies had).

*One thing to bear in mind, is that if you buy a reader than cannot do SDHC, it can only read up to 2gb cards, so it may be worth looking at an SDHC compatible reader (slightly more expensive), to ensure it'll work with SD cards over 2gb, as and when you come across them (you can read non HC cards in a SDHC reader, but not SDHC cards in a standard SD reader).

Pretty much all card readers will write to SD cards. In fact, I'm amazed your £ shop one doesn't. Is the cards copy protection tab in the correct position?

My £3 delivered, unbranded card reader, from that well known auction site, writes to SD.

Edit - echoooo....sorry werewolf :D

Cheers for the help guys, I think the reader pushes the write proctection tab to protected when you insert it. I've made sure it's put to write enabled but when I insert it is still write protected.
