Card upgrade question.. (novice)

I currently have a HD 5870, but suspect this may struggle a little at my default desktop resolution (1920x1200) with Battlefield 3 & the other big games later this year.

I was initially looking to upgrade to a 6970 before i read the how to unlock the 6950 thread (seems a bit scary for a beginner though) would a 6950/70 enable me to run Battlefield 3 at my resolution with potentially max settings bearing in mind my other PC settings i7 920 3.2GHz, 6GB DDR3 as i can only really afford to buy one upgrade or spend about £200-225 this year.

I would wait for the 7000 series as 6950/70 is not much better than a 5870

Your 5870 should be fine with BF3. Yes you probably won't max everything on ultra or AA but it should be fine. Skip this generation of cards.

I think the 7xxx will drop late nov - early dec. Just my 2p.
