Broke the neck of my left humerus (at the shoulder) a couple of weeks back and i've been quite sedentary since. At the moment it's in a cuff/collar when walking about and I can walk around but can't run. Normally i cycle most days and play a fair amount of badminton but none of that's going to be happening for a few weeks. I've been trying to think of some sort of cardio exercises i can do but i've no ideas! Can anyone please suggest something that i can think about trying?

I'm not intending this to be a medical thread. If it hurts or i feel it may impair recovery then i won't do it or i will ask a medic first. Also i'm not after any advice on rehabilitation of the arm.

Thanks
:)

static bike would be spot on.

Ah great idea, thanks :) I joined a gym last week they have and my membership on hold. I can start it off but it would be good if there is something that i can do outside the gym if the bike is all i'd be going for.

Walking, specifically decent gradient stuff. Or find an open office that has lots of stairs!

Set gradient on treadmill to 8+ and just walk at a comfortable pace, say 6+, do that for 30-40mins a time and it will burn calories. Obviously if you feel comfortable you can increase that, or lower if you feel pain. Not the most exciting but certainly works.

Thanks for the ideas guys :) I think i'll give it a few more days and get myself off to the gym. I've just spoken to one the staff and they said they will get a personal trainer to assess me and work out a suitable routine.

When I broke my humerus I cycled, walked and used the skiing machine (minus using the handles). As I gradually healed I started very light rowing. 3 years later still feel the metal plate in my arm

I would say walking was a good idea, when I tore the ligaments in my ac joint separation, walked to work every day. atleast took my mind off the pain somewhat.
