To cut a long story short, have been in my current role for about 5 weeks, graduated from university (Business & IT) in 2009, I'm currently in software support, where i support a online bespoke system, was in a similar role the previous year and a half but got nowhere with that company, hence the move.

Already promising, as i've got a meeting next week with my manager where we will be discussing what career path i'd like to take, either a Developer route (vb.net/c#) or a DBA route (sql etc.).

Now, I've had a little exposure to both VB.NET and SQL at university in a couple of modules, but i'm stumped as to what path i should chose.

What would you do? I'm just after a little advice from any DBA's or Developers out there.

Thanks.

Developer. Far more interesting than being a knuckle dragging DBA. Is the server running? Yes. Is the air con working in the server room? Yes. Is there any more windo-lene left on the windows? Yes, *lick, lick*

*runs* :D

Also, if you do go the developer route, go for C# as there's more jobs opportunities and jobs available.

I am leaning towards the developer route but have no exposure to C#.

Definitely developer.
Much, much more interesting than DBA work and C# is a great language to work with (though I may be biased as I do lots of C#!)

Developer. While most jobs nowadays are going offshore, some development is still here. I see most DBA's roles being offshored with little reason fo a UK presence (obviously this depends on the size of te company and it's less likely in smallr companies).
