Hi all quick question

Family member has a leftover voucher (£300) for carpetright which they are saying I can have as I need to recarpet (underlay , grippers, carpet) my two bed mid terrace.

I was going to try and go to a better priced independent, as everywhere I'm.seeing states carpetright is usually the worst commercial mainstream offender for prices normally.. anyone used them recently for a small place ?

If I was going to go with carpetright then I would need to use the voucher plus cash to get the job done but I don't want a £2.6k bill to settle if I could get the job done from an independant at £1.2-3 k.for instance

Maybe get a quote from both places?

I boycott carpet right ever since my mum had her stairs done and they charged a 90 quid surcharge for difficult job...of which 0% went to the carpet fitter, lol.

I've used carpet right a for a couple of rooms, the second time there was an issue with the fitting as they had hired a cowboy. They sorted it out afterwards and upgraded the carpet at no extra cost.
Local place has been great doing the stairs and bedrooms.

I'm going to get. Quote from 3 places.

Carpetright

Tapi carpets (who are a mainstreamer) they have a store by bnq near where I live

Independent company

See how it pans out. If the carpetright quote comes in say (£2.6k then the vocher lowers is to £2.3k. and either the other place or an independent come in at 1.3-6k there isn't really much point in taking the voucher although for the main carpets although I'll see I can use it for something else

We had a good experience with Tapi. Did a great job when we had our stairs and upstairs landing done.

I did my whole house myself. Not sure how these professionals do a bad job of fitting. Stairs was the only difficult part as is goes round a corner and has triangle steps but I figured it out.

Supply your own underlay, get a decent tredair or similar. I’d go independant the range of carpets and quality for the price was much better at my local places in brum than any of the big chains we tried.

I had a brief look at tapi carpets and looks 100% synthetic carpets even for the more expensive lines?

I had a look and synthetic (100% polypropylene /similar) vs 20% wool blends and the blended ones looked far better.

I went to my local indendant and I'm just waiting back on a quote. I need 3 bedrooms, landing and stairs done (~85 sqm). I'm going on a finger in air but expecting it to be around £3.5k

Just to be sure, this is a legit gift card not a dodgy newspaper clipping, lol?

My sisters boyfriends dad had a room done last month and its a lovely carpet, so soft and thick. Lovely to walk on. I reckon I could sleep on it.

Not sure what carpet it is, will find out and post it if anyone is interested.

An ex mate has grown up in the carpet trade (his dad built up a carpet shop). He now works for high end competitors - we're talking £100+/sq meter!

I'm starting to think about replacing the carpets in this place. However I don't like Carpetright given the crap the ex-mate spouted about them.

My place isn't big, I have measured the max lengths for each section and will provide measurements in ft to them as that's what they use in the leaflets usually when you have room layouts

I'm not sure what Capet is best I'll have a look at blended carpets, something that's going to be soft, warm , is not a pain to keep clean but light, I know you have to have twist carpets ? For high traffic area like stairs

Carpet he got was from Burts online
Victoria Carpets Ultimate Impressions Refined Grey Carpet £25 per metre sq.

Really is a nice carpet, so soft and nice underfoot

Used thickest underlay available.

Another vote here for Tapi. We used them to carpet our 4 bed detached and are thoroughly impressed. We got great service, great communication and a very competitive price. Just make sure you get good underlay - Tapi Gold is brilliant

We used Tapi recently for some flooring. We won’t be using them again. The fitters (contractors) were alright but Tapi were hopeless when arranging the measure up and overpriced. They got our address wrong from the start and despite telling them on multiple occasions this was never changed and the guy who measured up and the guy who fitted went to wrong address.
And then after measuring up the tapi employee signed the terms and conditions on our behalf. When we complained they claimed ignorance.

We’ll be going local when we come to carpet the house.

Got an independent local firm coming on Friday to measure up for stairs/landing and one of our bedrooms. We did our bedroom ourselves but don’t fancy doing the stairs so hopefully the price is reasonable.
