Carrier Command Gaea Mission - Thread

I've been following this on and off for a while now, and somewhere along the line I read that the game was mission based, which would be a big disappointment.

The original Carrier Command gave you completely free reign to develop your own strategies, which I find made it such an interesting challenge. Working your way through missions (such as in Hostile Waters) takes a lot of that fun away.

Anyone know how Gaea Mission works in this respect?

The campaign is a little more structured, but you can still choose out of a number of islands to attack and in what order most of the time.

The strategic mode however is more an open skirmish type thing where you have free reign to go and take what islands you want while defending against an enemy carrier trying to take your own.

Cheers for that. I'm still on the fence about it though, I think I'll be waituing for some reviews. If it were a total remake I'd get it immediately, but I'm still really not sure.

Been keeping an eye on this as it looks brilliant. Is one review showing on metacritic so far which is pretty damning though naturally ill wait for more reviews to decide.
I hope others see it in a much better light.

That metacritic review is pretty damming but also quite vague so I don't really put much weight behind it, l may just take a punt on this one the videos I have seen look good & I love the concept.

if it has a free look option then you should be able to get trackIR working even if not supported directly you just have to set up a profile in TrackIR for the game & edit it to suite there are instructions how to do this online.

So - anyone try it yet?. Reviews look promising although going by that thread on Bistudio.com there are a few common issues everyone is pointing out.

Got it on Steam, played about 2 hours.
Looks pretty, runs very well, quite detailed in the graphics dept, no CTD to report here. W7-64, Nvidia card.

Good points:
Good control system once you learn it.
Has a Campaign tutorial that is thorough.
Its very like Carrier Command, has a lot going on that CC had.
Can play the way you want to play it, micro manage or proper strategy.
Lots of customisations to the vehicles.
Has lots of potential.

Bad points at the moment:
The Walrus are possessed.
Has a FPS element to the start of the campaign that will drive you mad, no need for it.
No hardware mouse option, laggy mouse in FPS but okay when in proper game.
Navigation in FPS part is a pain, laggy waypointing system.

More bad points than good points but I reckon a lot of these things will be patched out. I reckon there's enough here to suck you in and learn to play it pretty efficiently just now, just in time for them to correct the major niggles and make this a really good game.
It does not feel like a 'push out the door and get money' title, I think the majority of the bugs and corrections needed are because of the scale of the game, there's a lot going on and a lot of open terrain.

At this point I'm not seeing multiplayer but if that comes along with a few patches I can see this being one of those games where you forget to go to bed and notice 2:30 on the clock.

HIH.

Thanks, it sounds like to me that it will be game that requires a degree of patience and time invested in order for the player to get the best out of it and perhaps it's not a game for the 'OMG....!!!! It haz bugs!!!' crowd. :)

All the promo videos I've seen for this game mainly show the game with first person view, am I right thinking you're using strategic view for most of the time?

Makes sense though they want to show the game at its best. Reminds me of those old supreme commander trailers that looked amazing but you spent most of your time looking at the radar.

This game could use a demo, I have never played a carrier command game and I'm sure many are in the same boat who have no idea what to expect.

My love for ARMA won't mean a thing I take it?

quite enjoying it so far, the walrus and manta ai is a little off, sometimes they cant even traverse a straight line. looks good, plays well, is a bit laggy and stuttery in places but i think that could be my mouse at times (its goosed)
