Seems to be most people have experienced this at some point. The nicer the car the more common it happens. Just today my brothers 4 month old TT was keyed the full length of the car. It does worry me when I take delivery of my car in a few weeks, and will always be at the back of my mind. I can't be the only one who worries about this happening?

It's so sad that in today's society you can't have something nice and enjoy it without someone feeling the need to vandalise it.

I had my car no longer than 2 days before it was keyed the full length on both sides.

Never had it happen to us fortunately when we had a new car in the UK, and my cars were all 10 years old so didn't stand out.

Had someone open their door into ours here with great force after 6 weeks, I imagine a 4x4 squeezing into a space that was too small then they couldn't get out. Hard enough to dent the panel and remove the paint! Chalked it up to bad luck, didn't get it repaired as I feared a bigger headache then getting the paint to match right and always noticing it being wrong, and then being scratched again.

Since then, no dents or keying. Doesn't seem as common in Australia but it does happen.

Never had a car keyed...

But had some do a hit & run into the side of one my cars that i only bought about 3 days before and I only had 3rd party insurance...

It's nothing to do with "today's society", people have vandalised things fit many many years.

Unfortunately a moderate percentage of the human race are scum. Someone keyed my car about 10 years ago, maybe Karma has given them testicle cancer since then, one can only hope :D

In the last month I have had my nearside wing mirror knocked of three times and last weekend the car was keyed the entire length on the same side and the indicator lens on the mirror smashed.

Jeez, where are you parking it?

I bought a 5 year old VW for work duties, the very next day had it keyed down the nearside while parked. It doesn't have to be a decent car to get it!

Incidentally, someone hit the same car yesterday while I was parked in Tesco and has left a few marks in the bumper.

Certain class groups have always done things like this.

Drunk chavs and drunk kids (from otherwise good areas) do stupid things when drunk, such as running up a bonnet over the roof and down the boot.

Been many cars that have received key damage - typically Audis and BMWs from my experience, around these areas. I would imagine that it is very easy to do as you only need to walk alongside it with your hand by your side. It would hardly look nefarious at all.

I've felt that car spaces are getting smaller though, and this brings with it some big issues when cars are getting parked worse, and driven with less car and attention.

As the rich/poor divide gets greater, I suspect that this sort of behaviour will become more common.
The pomposity of some of the high end brands and some people can't afford to put bread on the table?

I'm not condoning it, but I can see why it happens.

I struggle to see how anyone in our benefit-ridden society "cannot afford to put bread on the table" unless they're spending all their cash on fags, booze or iphones etc.
