Hello
I've just ordered (havent got it yet) the cosmos s case together with an maximus extreme motherboard. This is my first build ever. I was just wondering how the case fans are to be hoocked up?

There are 8 fan connectors on the motherboard and two are reserved for cpu and pwr. That leaves 6 3 pin connectors, 3 chassis and 3 optional.

Is there one single cable for all the chassis fans?
Or are all the fans connected separatly?
Could you have several fans powerd by one connector? If so how many?
Also is the big side fan also to be connected to the motherboard?

The case would have 6 case fans; 1 front, 3 top, 1 back, and the big side fan.

Thanks

It depends on whether the fans come with the 3-pin motherboard type connectors, or a 4 pin power supply connector. Each fan will probably have its own cable. Either connection will work fine, but plugging into the motherboard often offers benefits such as speed control to reduce the noise. With so many fans, you might well want to be able to reduce the speed, or even turn off some of the fans! :)

Hi
Yes I'd like to be able to control the fans, which is why I'd rather have them plugged into the motherboard. I dont know what kind of connectors the fans in the case has already but the three top fans, that i will add, are 3-pin fans.

Would it be possible for two or more fans to be sharing one motherboard connector using a cable splitter or would that draw to much power on that connector?

Also there's a 3-pin PWR_FAN connector on the motherboard, what fan is that supposed to be connected to? Sorry for the newbe questions... :)

yep you would be best off getting a fan controller. id recommend the zalman one linked above for your amount of fans. you could then plug the side and exhaust fans into the motherboard as you would probably want these to be running full power unless noise bothers you

Here ya go..

left to right ->

SYS fan, 2000rpm connected to board, running at 1200rpm 6v
AUX 1 2000rpm @ 1200 6v (On board)
AUX 2 1000rpm @ 1000 12v (On board)
AUX 3 1000rpm molex

Front Fan Molex

Bottom intake 2000rpm 6v (on board controller)

Side panel fan also onboard @12v 950rpm (As far as i remember it has an optional molex adaptor)

So thats gonna use up 5 three pin slots on the MB with the 6th being the CPU

With any luck your not using a tuniq, or this might happen..

TT doesnt quite fit with the side fan attached, shave an 8th off the top right hand edge of the fan and Bobs your uncle...

If your board supports fan controll (which im pretty sure they all do now) I wouldnt bother buying an external controller, as you can sort it all from bios or an external app.
