I am getting a fairly good condition Antec 300 soon (by next week) for £16.50 local collection! I am wanting some ideas, right now I am thinking of cutting a side window, better cable management, spray some of it :), replacing some of the rivets with bolts or whatever, removing the stupid fan grills that restrict air flow, buy LED fans etc :)
What do you think?

(note: I am going to put it in my existing thread)

Spray the inside black by all means, but don't, please don't, spray anything else.

A window could look nice, if you can get tinted perspex or something similar that would make it a good looking case. :)

Note: I say tinted because the LEDs will be overkill with a clear window imo.

You could use a rotary tool/wire cutters to carefully cut away the mesh from the fan locations, and/or spray the inside black to make it look smarter. I wouldn't hack the side window apart though unless you know what you're doing or it could look rather 'messy' if it's not done right.

Cutting a window is quite easy.
Tape panel with masking tape to protect finish.
Draw the window you want.
Draw a secon window smaller then what you want inside of the first window.
Drill a hole inside of window big enough for jigsaw blade to go through.
Have a good solid surface you can set side panel on
Use the finest blades you can get for jigsaw.. ideally 32 tpi (teeth per inch)
Cut out window.

Easy if you know what you're doing, but I've seen too many horrible wonky window cuts to advise a 12 year old to have a go at doing this! :p

I've posted about this before, hopefully it will help you out with the cable management side....

This is a build I did for a friend...

...all you really need to do is drill one new hole and make one existing one larger. You will need a cable extension for your 4/8pin to reach around the back of the board too.

Cable tie as many cables as possible at the back of the 3.25" bays.

A Sata optical would help too, or failing that, at least get a rounded cable for your IDE drive.

Also, not sure if your PSU would work well upside down, but that really helps keep it looking tidy too, and contrary to popular belief, there is enough room for it to breathe upside down.

Your choice. I prefer nibbler.. and jigsaw.. no hot grinding bits flying around, no chance of it jumping and doing wonky things. And I've used all kinds of different rotary tools over the years. Not saying they are bad mine, just much easier to wong things up. ;)

A good nibbler is good for smaller cuts. Fan vent is about as big as I would want to cut by hand. Case window would need forearm and hand strength like a gorilla.
