Looking for suitable case for a build.
Don’t want any LED-RGB display, boring black is fine for me.
Previously used Fractal Design cases .. but will consider others.

Intend fitting B650E ATX mobo and a full size GPU and 1000W psu

Good cooling is important, do mesh cases perform better .. sort of assume ducting of air would be better, than just mesh sides.
Can you still get DVD/Bluray drive bays … I know USB or sharing is now normal, but I have a large collection of discs.

These are cases I'm aware of that still have them:
Antec P7
Bequiet Base 600
Phanteks Enthoo Pro / Pro Glass
Fractal Pop XL Air/Silent

In theory
If done right yes mesh cases should
Perfom better/have more airflow
And years ago actually did get ducting from
Cpu to exhaust on some pc
Not seen it in ages though

It seems the Fractal POP. xL

Had a basic look through these ... I need EATX compatibility, which rules out Antec P7 and BeQuiet 600, also the Fractal Pop's does not support the full EATX format only a reduced size of 280mm so that is also ruled out
So only the Phanteks Enthoo Pro looks an option.
Any other EATX form factor cases that accept a 5.25" Optical drive ?

If you go to PCP you can search by format: EATX and set a minimum of 5.25", though I notice that most of the cases shown are unavailable, but you can look at those that have prices.

I just tried that .... only one case shows Phanteks Entoo Elite but that is £879 ... way too expensive

The Phanteks is OK ... but would mean optical prive on show, like the case where the front is a door that hides all.

I don't know of any like that, except the Define 7 XL.

I use an Akasa Mirage where the door hides the bays, but I think you're about 15 years too late for that one.

had a lian li case with a door on the front hiding my dvdrw etc (though it was transparent blue, but it looked good...just found it lian li pc 6087 from 2002)....again, from 15 years ago+..took it down to the tip when we moved house as my wife was nagging me about it...regret that big time

I think prob a lot cheaper getting a standalone drive to sit next to the case...just put it in a draw when not using it

Or Plan B .. I change my Motherboard choice away from B650E to something like ASUS ROG Strix X670E-E... and then can use an ATX format case, though the B650E had lost of benefits

Which board are you looking at exactly? B650E boards are usually ATX, not E-ATX.

B650E Taichi Lite
EATX Form Factor: 12.0-in x 10.5-in, 30.5 cm x 26.7 cm
The issue is that Fractal EATX only supports Motherboards up to 28 cm long

It was the one recommended here (I had not heard of it) was advised to wait (which I have been doing to get AMD Ryzen 9 9900 ) and pair it with Taichi Lite
I do not know enough to judge Motherboard choices.
Maybe something like ASUS AMD ROG STRIX B650E-E GAMING WIFI AM5 DDR5 ATX or steeping up in price to Asus ROG Strix X670E-E (as high as I would consider going)

Simple Q ... will an EATX case take ATX boards .... or do I need to match ATX to ATX

Yes , larger cases take smaller motherboards.

What's your main use for your pc ?

Video editing …will have a decent GPU, but key for Davinici software is CPU processing (hence thinking of AMD Ryzen 9) and secondly will go for 32GB of DDR5 memory.
Never had AMD before, but AMD is out if front for Video processing.
