Case question

It was the one recommended here (I had not heard of it) was advised to wait (which I have been doing to get AMD Ryzen 9 9900 ) and pair it with Taichi Lite
I do not know enough to judge Motherboard choices.
Maybe something like ASUS AMD ROG STRIX B650E-E GAMING WIFI AM5 DDR5 ATX or steeping up in price to Asus ROG Strix X670E-E (as high as I would consider going)

Simple Q ... will an EATX case take ATX boards .... or do I need to match ATX to ATX
Why did they recommend the Taichi Lite specifically?

You would normally buy a motherboard like the B650E-E or X670E-E only if you need 4x M.2 slots.

What features do you need?
E.g.
PCI-E 4.0 or PCI-E 5.0.
Number of M.2 slots.
Number of SATA ports.
Number of secondary PCI-E slots (e.g. for sound card).
Sound quality and number of jacks.
SPDIF / Optical.
Number and speed of USB ports on the rear I/O (including Type-C).
Number and speed of USB ports to the front (including Type-C).
Number of LAN ports & their speed.
WIFI.

The advice on Motherboard was given in this forum post #10 ...
https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/is-my-proposed-build-sensible.18989131/#post-37203654

I am not fixated on what Motherboard, I had been looking at Asus ROG STRIX Z790-A ATX LGA1700 and an i7
However, AMD seems better choice for Video editing

As far as I can figure out
PCI-E 4 ... for my GPU choice .. but should I get latest PCI-E 5 to future proof?
2 x m.2 slots
Sata port count down to 2 as have the M.2 for drives
Sound Quality not that critical as just using standard PC plug-in USB speakers
No use for Optical that I know of.
Front & back USB 3 would be good and some USB-C as well as USB-A sockets on the case so Motherboard support
1 x LAN GigE minimum, 2.5GB nice to have, but no devices to work to it currently

I just had good news that Fractal confirm the B650E Taichi will fit ... the 280mm restriction is width (it didn't mention it was width)
However, be good to make the right choice on motherboard with an AM5 socket & supports M.2 drives and DDR5 memory

I'm running the b650e-e board. Solid. If you're using it for work I'd take it over the B650e-f board purely for the debug led display, which will save you time if there's ever a problem ( i actually had a memory problem when first built, but code showed me as much and once i retrained the memory, not had an issue since). Below is rundown of board. Taichi lite is a good board, and HU like it as good for price etc, but you also have to look at price in your own region...might be cheap in US, but in UK it's not cheap compared to others...i found it hard to find anyway. now not being a atx board so complicating your case choice, I'd just drop it
There's a lot of solid boards out there if you don't want pcie5 either...but for me the b650e was worth it over a b650 standard..i just prefer the option on being able to slot a much faster gpu in a few years down the line knowing wont be any performance hit...doubt there will be with pcie4, but for the cost difference, I didn't mind...last thing I want to do is start swapping out a mobo...too many wires etc and I can't be bothered with that

As guide just watch HU recent recommendation where they put the tachi lite as best board to get as price is $240 or £189....so to comparable priced boards has good features...however in uk cheapest price is over £280 as most places don't stock it

thanks to @mickyflinn saying b650e-f available for £190 on different thread..had a look and yup, seen for £187 at mo (thought it was back up at £230)....seeing as cheapest I can find the b650e-e board is £250 at mo...I'd go b650e-f .It's still more than capable. you loose a m.3 slot(3 rather than 4) and the led error code display..vrms aren't the same but wont make any difference anyway...and saving £60

I wouldn't buy 13th or 14th gen CPUs right now, it is just not worth the risk of getting a lemon.

If those are your requirements pretty much any B650 board that isn't super cheap would fit them just fine.

The Strix B650E-F is one of the cheapest boards with PCI-E 5.0 graphics, though realistically this probably won't matter unless you're keeping the PC for a very long time.
