Cash on collection/Collection only

I never do it, you dont know what type of person will show up.

They could be knocking on your door 6 months later talking some crazy xxxx about how the thing broke yesterday and you owe them a full refund or lose some teeth

Yeah. Best not leave the house ever. You don't know who you could bump into.

Or you know tell them to do one.

I sold some amigas a while back to a guy from here, came to my house. He had 4 of them, some games, etc the lot. Have a Ring doorbell so I can see who's outside. Paid with paypal where we could both see the transactions etc and he knew the state of them.

I can’t even begin to describe how much happier your life will be if you don’t start from the position that people are trying to scam you.

If I bought a collection only item and the seller suggested a random car park rather than their house I’d run a mile.

Collection only for valuable items, unless it’s by bank transfer and someone you can trust, such as the marketplace here.

Many scammers play the numbers and will only do it online. You can still get scammed in person but it’s much harder as long as you have common sense. I would be wary of cash, so I’d still use bank transfer and want to see a form of ID. I wouldn’t invite people in unless absolutely necessary because there’s always the chance they are scoping you out to rob you later.

Why pay PayPal fees for a collection transaction? So much added risk and cost for you as a seller, makes no sense.

Do give some background information on this :o
I'm sure there's a perfectly innocent explanation which doesn't involve scalping... Right?

It would be interesting to hear why someone sold 10-15 PS5s if it wasn't for profit. After all, @Psycho Sonny wouldn't have anything to do with scalping...

I hate how everybody is trying to scalp everybody right now. It sucks. I refuse to be any part of it.

I think in your frothy excitement to try and make this post, you missed the quote marks. It was FoxEye who said that, not PS. He is scalper supreme, even getting onboard the trainer hype.

To be fair, that was him quoting another member (albeit badly - for some reason without using the quote tags)

I see what you mean. He doesn't have anything against scalpers and is happy to be one. All's good then...

People have bought low and sold high since the dawn of time my man. Your anger is misdirected if you think someone selling things at a price a small segment of the market is willing to bare is an issue.

People's main issue with scalpers (or mine at least), is that they add literally nothing to the supply chain. From raw material supplier to retailer, everyone adds some value (whether you think that's proportional to their mark-up is another argument ;)).

With scalpers on the other hand, you end up paying a higher price for an inferior product (since it's then a 2nd hand item which may result in warranty problems).

You are quoting foxeye not me.

If you care to go through my other posts you will see that I have openly said that scalping is simply supply and demand. There is nothing wrong with it unless it's essential items. It's a free market overall.

Nice try though. Maybe you will get a win next time.

I totally agree however I have a choice to simply not engage. For scalpers to exist there must be buyers. The easiest way to cut off the scalper is to stop buying from them. The biggest issue is not providing enough supply to fulfil demand, which ultimately (typically) lies with the OEM.

Yeah that well known tactic or buying something from someone to scope out their home.

Lol

Most robberies don't involve scoping out the place other than making sure nobody is home.

Been watching too many Hollywood movies

Does happen in real life.

Year ago I got my tool room broken into and all my power tools stolen.

Its at the back of property through two locked gates and you cant see it from the road.

Its a room in the barn attached to my house and there are three locked doors, one is the boiler room and the other is horse feed room.

They only broke into the tool room.

So they knew exactly which room it was and where I kept all my power tools.

They could have only done that with prior knowledge of my property and having been there before.

I don’t see what’s that unbelievable about someone checking out whether someone has other things worth robbing and seeing how their house is secured? And they don’t necessarily need to buy. They can always say they don’t want it after inspecting.

Have you not kept up to date with Facebook CT's of markings in front of the house/on the wheelie bin?

Yes and no, unless there was a massive surplus of supply, then scalpers could simply buy all the stock which was released, as it would be guaranteed profit. Obviously if there was a huge surplus then they would be left holding the leftovers once demand was met.

I do agree that it is partially down to buyers as well - if no one bought from scalpers then they wouldn't exist, but people need to have that new & shiny :(
