Hi Guys,

my mate who is really into poker (he's taught me and others as well) for xmas is getting a proper poker chips set with a card shuffler from his parents. and we are all (10 of us) going to chip in a buy him a poker table.

Now i've been thinking of buying him a pack of 'proper' playing cards. some really nice ones.

I've been googling and found these

they look very good quality. But I personally have no idea if they are any good.

If anyone else can reccomend them or any others I am going to be looking to buying some.

Many Thanks :)

them cards look sweet

Kem cards are the finest playing cards available, they are made of thermo-plastic materials that are virtually tear-proof and washable. These cards will last for years and if one should get damaged Kem will replace it for free.

what more can one say
except but me on your xmas list lol

hi, i play poker regularly, aslong as you get plastic cards you should be ok, they will last a while. However, most people buy cards made out of card which will last about a month if you play a lot. They seem v.good.

I dislike plastic cards. Bicycle cards are the daddies. Or the linen finish waddingtons (I think?) ones, cheap too.

got any links?

price isn't really an issue (as long as it doesn't get silly) it's xmas after all and he;s one of me best mates :)

I have some Kem cards , best you can buy :)

I have used Bee and Bicycle and they are wrecked after one evenings use

Copag are also very good and a bit cheaper than Kem

Copaq are also great, we've got a pack in our house and we play poker regularily, they've kept their flatness after 100s of riffleshuffles!

I bought a load in Vegas that had been used at the tables. Pack of Kem cards with the casino logo on for £2... bargain

Got ceasars, MGM, NYNY, Excalibur, Venetian, Wynn.... list is endless! :)

Kem are only used in some of the poker rooms and I have never seen those sold off , will try and look for them next visit

KEM used to offer (almost) free replacements, for up to five years, for any damaged card. This service is no longer available since the KEM Playing Card Company was sold to the U.S. Playing Card Company in 2004. Replacement KEM cards are no longer available

Just a note of interest (I used to work in a casino)...

The cards are brand new and shredded after 1 day. I once asked if i could take some home and the manager just gave me a funny look.

Hardly surprising :p

Vegas casinos have 2 of the corners rounded off used cards ( so they cannot be reintroduced at a game ) they are then sorted and re packed ( by the prisoners at the clark county jail ) and then sold to the public

Definately Kem, dude. I brought them from Ceasars, which shop i couldn't say because the place is so bloody big.

Didn't realise they were pakced by prisoners, I've got a pack from most of the casinos

KEM are a good choice. Plastic cards are essential for anything other than the occasional game of cards. Those seem over priced to me. You should be able to pick KEM cards up for about £15, plus postage two pack set.

I'd also recommend checking out Copag 100% plastic cards. I have a pack myself (i like the jumbo index ones), and they're fantastic. They're the company that supply the World Series of Poker with their cards. They can be had for about £6 a pack, or £8 or £9 for a two pack set (like the KEM ones linked to).

On another point, automatic shufflers are utter garbage. They don't give a decent shuffle, and they break easily. At least with plastic cards, manual riffle shuffling is a breeze, leading to quick easy and thorough shuffles.
