Casio compact camera?

I am looking to buy a nice cheep and cheerful compact for snapping when on hols/nights out and for the girlfriend to use, etc (ie places i don't want to be carrying the SLR).

Does anyone have any experience with Casio compacts? I've seen the Casio Exilim EX-Z12 which is in my price range, and is a nice small size while still having a decent sounding spec, but is it actually any good? I'd like a light a camera that has a decent battery that can take pics all day without needing a charge.

I was hoping to get one of those, but it might be a little outside what the gf will let me spend (even though its as much for her as me)

I had looked at the fuji f480 also but reading up on that it didn't get very good reviews. I can't find much in the way of opinion on the casio though. :(

F50fd - You can pick them up for around £120 from shops and I have seen them for £110 on the bay including postage.
very good camera too.
 
I've found the Casios to be excellent.

I've got an Exlim Z4, which is quite a few years old now, but it's still going strong and is an excellent point and click. I prefer the shape to the Ixus and the image quality on a lot of the range is comparable.

As far as I'm aware Casio share their production with Pentax; Casio do the elctronics and Pentax provide the lenses.

Barrel distortion is an issue, though not noticable on most shots, and it can be fixed very easily.

The battery on mine generally lasts me a week on holiday, taking a couple of hundred shots, mainly with flash as it's my evening out camera.
 
Casio have huge noise problems and the usability and responsiveness of the IXUS range is fantastic.

By Fuji f'xx' I meant a Fuji with just a 2 digit number.

It worth the money, you'll just have to trust us.
 
Casio's are fine they are good compact cameras for a decent price. Great camera for social occasions where you just need to point and click.

But this isn't a thread about ixus and fuji xx as they are both a little more expensive than I am looking for, so therefore i think i am valid in starting a thread to discuss how good a casio camera would be as they are far cheaper than this at around 90 quids. :)

Thanks, that's the sort of answer i was looking for :) I was impressed with my potential father in law's pentax, though it's getting on a little now.

The battery is a big concern as I did have a compact which i sold on because the battery didn't last much more than 20-30 shots :(

Excellent, that's exactly what I want one for really, afterall I have the SLR for hobby photography, i'm not looking for the best of the best!! just want to know what i am looking at is decent for this :) thanks.
 
no point stickying this thread as cameras change all the time and the range is vast however a sticky that says *****looking for a point and shoot look here first*****

and have a list of a proven point and shoots! and maybe update that every 6 months to a year!
