just got a price for a 1 metre length of 5" cast clear acrylic that im wanting for my project case and its gonna be £350+vat!! :eek: :eek: :eek:

why is it so much more expensive for cast acrylic than extruded?i mean i know how each are made and that with,say aluminium you pay more for a forged part than a cast part due to manufacturing costs ect.

gonna have to re-research my plans now cos my case will cost me best part of £2k to make how i want it :rolleyes:

reason i wanted cast clear acrylic was due to it being a far better finish than extruded acrylic :)
 
its just the price of cast clear acrylic that i want for it!the cast acrylic clear sheet is only £30+vat per m2 which aint bad but cast acrylic tube is extortionate so im having to find alternative suppliers or materials cos i dont really want the case to cost more than a couple hundred quid for base materials

Funny enough I just had a quote on some today and you are getting ripped off:

1x 2000mm x 1500mm x 3mm Fluorescent CAST Perspex @ £90.00 per sheet.

That is a full 2m x 1.5m sheet. The flourescent part highlights the edges (similar to UV reactive acrylic).

If you want the details of the supplier let me know. Shipping on that was another 20 quid anywherein the UK (except highlands and NI).

This place will do any size (and I think shape as well) so if you didn't need a full sheet they would do you a custom size for I expect significantly less money.

I got a quote on some cast blocks of clear sunset yellow acrylic too:

4x 100mm x 40mm x 10mm Clear CAST Perspex @ £20.00 job lot.

Again shipping 20 quid so looks like they just do a flat shipping rate. Prices are exclusive of VAT though so don't forget to add that in.

op: were you trying to get a sheet 5" thick? of course that would cost you 350 smackers :P

i'd be interested in knowing about cheap places to buy acrylic sheet as i feel a mkII coming for a new case :D
 
youv just given me an ace idea, lol make a whole clear case like make a see through case (bit like the akasa one.) (i think its akasa :S) then exchange the outer things of the hdd for clear so u can see into it etc, and the dvd drive exchange all the metal parts in the mobo for see thru materials, :D

(im crazy)
