Hope this hasn't been posted before a video of Castle Combe, in particular look out for the Evo drivers new take on cornering :)

Oh and 2.30 - now that's close.

Ahhh, the legend that is Quarry Corner :D

In all honesty though I don't understand why so many people get Quarry so wrong. I have never found it to be that tricky, infact I'd say Camp corner is trickier to get right due to the double apex.

Hi there

Never driven that track or been round it but to me it looks like some of them are simply going to quick, messed up on braking or have trying powering out of the corner to soon or simply been to lead footed.

Some of the speeds some of them go into the corner make me wonder how they ever expected to get round the corner in the first place, kinda like its the first time they've taken the corner.

Or maybe it just a very decieving corner, still many nice cars now broken.

Basically quarry is at the end of the fastest section of Combe, decent cars are doing 120+ approaching it. Just before quarry there is an incline and drop (Avon Rise), then a shallow left hander leading onto quarry. So basically you can't see quarry till you are virtually on top of it.

What you have to do is get hard on the brakes when you 'land' after taking Avon Rise. Do this right and quarry is a doddle.

On my first time at Combe I applied my brakes both before Avon Rise and after, mainly because I had actually listened to the briefing....

I remebember thinking 'what is all the fuss about?' after I took quarry that first time.

Exactly, Quarry isn't particulary hard.

Most recent off @ Combe for us was caused by car not seeing us coming, and moved over into us (didn't expect us to be doing over 130+ on Avon Rise on a public Actionday!)

And going back a long time (before the chicanes were put in), I remember an advanced racing instructor (not allowed to say who due to legal reasons, but the boss of the company is very well known in the motoring world) lost my dads 205 gti Turbo  at Hammerdown - still have incar footage of my dad telling him the lap before to slow down as he didnt have proper control of the car, but the video shows the instructor not listening to the cars owner  !

But those are the only incidents I personally know of in over 20 years of my dad driving there (including Castle Combe saloon car championship)...

Oh, and I know current racing drivers Ed Moore & Jon Reeves, and can honestly say that I can't remember the last time they crashed, so Castle Combe is fine for experienced drivers (obviously excluding coming together with other cars etc), and the main point is knowing their/their cars limits, and taking it easy on a quiet day for your first time round :)

I was stood right next to the tyre wall at Camp Corner once when a F3 car ploughed straight into it. Quite shocking.

I have seen a few cars spin off on Quarry. Never seen an evo go straight over it though. lol.

Personally when driving combe I have never had an issue with Quarry. I have span off on Old Paddock bend though. I have also seen a "pro" do this in the GT racing and totalled his Porsche 911, fortunately I span off onto the grass in the middle of the track where as he went into the tyre wall. I took the corner wide as a result of a late overtake and ended up on all the crap on the track = no traction.

As long as you do your braking before avon rise your ok, if not you really are screwed as the car goes light and will not slow down much.

I braked a bit late once into it in my s2000 (even after over 50laps of that in my old rover) and back end stepped out. Somehow i managed to hold a slide all the way around, if it snapped like some of those did though it would have gone very wrong

They just take it way too fast. The Cavaliers just understeer straight off and lose their wing mirrors...never mind the faster cars

I spotted that :D As a chavalier owner myself I had to chuckle. TBH I was surprised at the relative lack of body roll on those ones - must've retro-fitted the anti-roll bars that Vaux forgot to at the factory!

Yeah, compared with the other cars that left the track, the Cavs seemed to fare well..

That's because they couldn't get as much speed as some of the others :p Or the drivers just know what they are doing, so the car's limits etc.

That's a cool video, shows you need to pay attention to breifings :D

I cringed when the evo went straight into the tyre wall :o

I actually rather enjoyed seeing that, given the number of Evo owners I know who are absolutely convinced that the laws of physics don't actually apply to them....

I did cringe at that poor car (Lotus/Westy 11?) getting annihilated by the out-of-control BMW at around 2:30 though :(
