cat 6.3 install problems

Hi....i'm having problems installing the latest catalyst 6.3 drivers, every time i install them...two unknown devices show up in device manager, reading on the correct install sequence ....ati suggests first putting the wdm driver on, then the 6.3, i have done this and always pops up before the end saying new hardware found, but cannot find the software to install :-( used driver cleaner to remove everything..but still keep getting the same problem..those two damn unknown devices....any suggestions...as to what i am doing wrong?? i'm running windows xp64 /sapphire x1900xtx btw.

You downloaded the full XP64 driver package, have you tried going to Device Manager, and updating the drivers for the unknown devices there, and then pointing it to your downloaded WDM drivers. :)
 
Hi..thanks for the reply, yes it's the full package i downloaded, everytime i choose the folder the files have installed too...it says it can't find the correct file, getting rather frustrated with it now.
 
What happens if you try to install the WDM drivers on their own, as presuambly if you download them seperately then they will have an install, so have you tried installing that way, or can't it find anything.

My guess would be that its XP64 thats the problem.
 
Hi...the install goes fine, until you have to reboot the system, then upon loading..throws up the box with new hardware found...but when you scan for the drivers it doesn't recognise them, even when manually directing it to the folder, think you may be right about it being windows xp64, can any xp64/ati users confirm this ?

Ive had this problem with every set of Cat's since i got an X1800XT .. only solution was windows reinstall for me until i made a disc image before trying latest 6.3's ... problem seems to be some dll's are being locked in the registry but as yet not found a solution & not too bothered as no real updates in the x64 Cats this time anyway ... roll on Cat 6.4 & hope they fix it
 
Same prob here too... Ive tried various combos of driver installs.. but when you install WDM drivers, it goes straight to the "install complete... reboot pc" screen, doesnt even seem like anything has been installed... get the usual 2 unknown devices in devman.

I have emailed ATi today.. who first gave me the usual.. follow the install instruction..duh!! Suppose they have to do that first...

Must be a prob with the combination of x64, 6.3 cats and the x1900xt... as everything works fin in 32bit XP... I will keep you posted on what ATi have to say...

How can I disable the annoying "detect new hardware" message that appears everytime windows starts....?? Must be a regtweak, or tickbox somewhere...??

Hi...yep you can tell when you install the wdm drivers...that something isn't right, just put xp back on the drive..as the game vivisector was having none of it working under xp64 ..kept throwing up errors, tis a shame as i do prefer the 64bit operating system, thanks about keeping me posted what ati have to say.:-)

Lol.. well ati got back to me...

You are correct, there are currently no 64 bit WDM drivers available. The release notes for the WDM Drivers indicate they are only applicable on Windows XP and Windows 2000

I have asked them to kindly remove them from the x64 drivers section!!!
 
i had trouble with these as well and ended up going back to 6.2 omegas. i normally rate the ATI drivers but in this instance the omega seem a lot better.

oh and i dont have an X1800/1900... just an X800XL.

Recently read on Planet64 its possible to manually install WDM 6.2 drivers with the Cat 6.3 although not tried myself.. happy to just have Cats & two unknowns for now ... then prob have big prob putting on 6.4's :eek:
