Cat attacked

I'm sure she'll be alright.

Came home one day to find one of ours lying on the bed covered in blood, don't know if she was attacked or caught herself on something but she had a big deep cut running down the side of her. Went straight to the vet who patched her up and kept her in for observation but when she came home she was still the same friendly cat as before.

Agreed.

If they've lost then they tend to go into something similar to shock then hide away and sleep for a couple of days while feeling sorry for themselves. Can't do much other than clean the wounds. Our cat lost a fight, snook into the spare bedroom then went to sleep on the bed. Found him a couple of hours later. Couple of scratches on his head and some teeth puncture marks on his back in front of the tail (which was leaking claret on the sheets). He usually objects to getting shoved in a cat carrier to go to the vet, but didn't put up a fight this time. Vet cleaned out the bite wounds and gave him an anti-biotic jab to prevent infection. Back to normal in a few days, but was wary of going outside for a while.

I've read some stuff theorising that depression is an animal instinct to protect us. For example when when we get older and start losing at fights... It makes sense to stop picking fights. The book called it "Go to the back of the cave" reflex.

Plausible.

They do change with age, the cat I was talking about above is now getting a bit older, he's now about 12 years old. Always been an active and social cat and a surprisingly light sleeper compared to the cats we've had previously. He's more of a homebody than he was a few years ago. Sleeps a bit more, even takes an afternoon nap for a couple hours.

If your cat hasn't been neutered then probably got a good seeing to by the local tom cat, sounds absolutely horrific, male cat penises are covered in thousands of tiny fish hook like barbs though....

Our cat is a very small neutered black female and unfortunately attracts the wrong sort of attention from another female who lives some distance away. The other cat is ruthlessly aggressive, fortunately most of the fights have been "virtual" ones with a glass window or door panel in the way. However the other cat has come into the house a couple of times so our concern is it will end in real violence at some point.

Cats are just as capable of being bullies as humans are and there is a kind of Terminator effect at play - can't be bargained with, can't be reasoned with and will never stop! Actually TBH we haven't seen it around for the last few days so possible it has come a cropper - out all hours unlike our's who is kept in during darkness - either with one of the local foxes or a road vehicle.
