Does Glasses or CAP give you Cat C/D values?

Looking for an estimated value of a Cat C/D Clio 182 if anyone has access...

How about you link us to the car/give us more details and we can tell you if it is a good deal or not? :).

No, Glass's does not give Cat C/D book values because a Cat C or D car has no real book value.

Perhaps work on book - 30% or something?

Sounds about right to me (I had always assumed ~25%), which would put the car as cheap, or on the money depending on condition.

Nobody can tell Mike anything he doesnt already know!

Let's be honest, people are going to look at a car advert with crap pictures and try to sound clever with no real useful information, leading to a thread spiralling downwards.

Whereas I can take a 2 minute drive and look at the car and make my own mind up. Quite happy to reveal what I'm looking at, mind;

Car in question is a 2004 Blue 182, 67k - £2500.

I think the most important bit of information is when it was written off.

Last month? Could easily have been something reasonably minor, though I would want further proof.

5 years ago? Somebody stacked it big time.

It was written off at just over three years old, which I guess would have put the insurers value at around £6500, thus the claim would have had to be just £3900.

If my ST can run up a bill of nearly £3k before hire cars for a relatively minor rear end shunt, the Clio could have been something fairly minor, too. I will be certain to check it out thoroughly, which I would have anyway.

Just done a double take on the advert and noticed this car has "built in satnav", which I presume to mean is a factory fit unit - can't say I've ever seen one, was it an option and is it common? Is it any good?

Now, if only the vendor would answer their phone :/

It CAPS at £2550 Average, Clean £2750. CAP Retail £5095!

If I was buying it as a CAT D, I'd be wanting to pay £17-1800 for it with a £2995 retail.

At £2500 it's good value for money, just make sure they haven't done a poor job of repairing it.

It came a long time ago, then I had the set back of employment issues - since then (and the budget decrease that has come with it) I've been searching daily for something I'll be happy with.

I've been to look at MX5s, 106GTIs, 205GTIs, a 172 but everything bar one 106 has been crap. If this 182 is no good, I'll probably put it all aside until I find a job and can spend more money on something I'll be more happy with.

I seem to remember suggesting more than one of the cars on that little list to you a couple of months ago and you dismissed each and everyone with something along the lines of 'I don't want one', may I ask what has changed?

Finally got through, and went to have a provisional look in the daylight as the seller doesn't finish work until 4.

It is really tidy, and that is saying something with my standards (although completely relative). It needs a wheel painting, as the wheels have been painted in the cup colour and one is peeling and it needs two rear tyres as the rears are budgets - so little more than £100 spending on it.

Now I just have to wait for him to call me back when he finishes work.

Personally I'd say you'd want to pay 2k or less for it.

182s are dropping in price nicely, so won't be too much longer before near that money (2.5k) will buy you a non cat d example.

Well, what an event. Went and looked at it, checked it out, drove it everything seemed peachy, right down to knocking him down to £2k.

Got back to mine to complete the deal and do a HPI check, and it turns out it's a Category B, and on further inspection the vin plate in the windscreen has screwdriver marks all over it.

I feel for the seller, he was genuinely shocked and quite upset about it. I even asked him first if he minded waiting while I did a HPI check, and explained what it was (he'd never heard of one!), he was perfectly happy.

It is a shame.

Aye cat B means shouldn't be on the road, poor guy :(

My old 19 was declared cat b when it got smashed up, had it's rear right 3/4 ripped off but the rest of the car still looked ok :)
