Is it worth buying back, been offered a price for the bike and salvage.

All i know i from my off is fairing damage, new LH rearset & LH new clip. The machine started before it went away for inspection.

Should there be a report available detailing why its a CAT C ? I dont really want to buy it back and find out the frame is bent or the forks damaged etc.

Forks are easy enough to replace, breakers yards or eBay and may even come in at a fair price

Frame as you say is a no no but if it was frame damage would it nit be a higher category write off??

Ring the insurer they will have a report of the damage

Inspect before buying then? Are they not letting on what happened to it? If so, I would be skeptical.

Other than that.

This, other wise you risk a Fireskull scenario & find out the company responsible for picking up/storing your bike has "lost" the clocks or some other suitabley expensive part or other.

Mine was a CatC, £3.5k to repair.
I bought the salvage for £270, put £650 (parts and labour) into it and it's as good as the day I got it. Still my daily ride, still as utterly awesome, even more beloved... and I got a 780 Lightning out of the deal as well!!

However, I did NOT let anyone take the bike away. I insisted on the 'independent assessor' (who worked for the 3rd Party insurers, co-incidentally) coming to may place and looking the bike over there.

Check the bike over thoroughly before you decide.

As VoG said inspect it and try and find out whats what, I didn't get a report and the salvage company were useless, and stuff went missing, but got compensation back for them though.

It was only after that I found out stuff like fork was slightly bend and a disk was bend too, thats all so far, it hasn't fallen apart on me yet :D
Initially it was written off I think because OE fairings on a sportsbike cost ££££ and nearly all of them were damaged :p

Bonkers, i really think this insurance people are all in cahoots the assessor the lot.

Anyway i got a bargain for the RC which was 2008model with only 3.5k on the clock (i put 1.5k on in 2 months :D ) Cut a long story short its 5.6k in my back pocket or 4k and 1.6k to buy it back with some rear frame damage and complete LH side, panals, rearset, clip on, and swingarm scratched, bike was taken away very quickly to there base, overall they have been pretty good and efficient about it. The price of OEM parts are crazy and half the issue. If i had the time and facilities (no equipment for a swing arm removal) MRs would go balastic after i had to pay a builder after i trussed a old zx9 to the rafters of the garage for a fork seal change.

Its pained me but i have taken the cash and be done with it and not out of pocket.

So its either another RC8 or a 990 Superduke, only ever had sports bike since a wee lad so the superduke is really unknown stuff.

My YZF-R125 was cat C at the start of the year, got about market value for the bike, plus they let me keep it for nothing, broken fairings, and a scrape on the swingarm saw it off. Still havent found the time to fix it up though, got almost a full set of replacement fairings for £250.
