Went on my first visit to the A537 - Cat & Fiddle road.

I only live 15 miles away, so it was a quick trip! I've only been riding since March on my 125, and covered 1950 miles so far, but nothing compared to this.

The roads around Buxton are a haven for bikers, the atmosphere was amazing, although it's a shame about the Nazi style police around the area, however in some cases it is needed after some reckless riding by somebody on a gixxer almost putting his bike in a field along with his passenger.

Overall, a pretty nice day out and enjoyable, even at a steady (in some views slow) 35-50mph amongst the country lanes.

Im guessing other people on here have been there, what were your experiences?

Any other decent roads around (heard about Matlock?). Possible OCUK biker meet?

don't go at a weekend (really don't go on a bank holiday weekend), 1-2am on a weekday morning you see no traffic and no police

Went across it 3 times a couple of weekends back, even managed to scrape my toe on the tarmac which is quite an achievement on a 17-year old touring bike ;). But as said above, due to the traffic and police there are plenty of better roads around there to enjoy - can't remember the numbers but there's a couple of roads which form a triangle with the cat & fiddle which are much more fun.

I'd be up for a meet there any time.

Yeah, the roads leading up to the cat + fiddle, seemed a lot better, there wasn't as many bikes around. The corners weren't as technical but you could get a hell of a lot of speed down there if you had the power.

i wouldnt bother going in day light and bank hoildays will only be good for sightseers/people looking to become statistics.

im another 11pm-1am type. a golf gti goes over there really well but sometimes you want a touch more power

best.road.ever. Went over it in my R32 few months ago early evening and it was empty, was laughing out loud inside the car. Good times!

I always drive it when I get chance and spirited. In my view its worth risking the 3-6 points if you get collared as I dont get the chance to drive it every often. PS Its the ONLY road i use this attitude :)

cat and fiddle is very open and if you're observant enough you can stay out of trouble easily. idiots who get pulled so stay awake. great road though from what i remember.:)

Yep, apparently they widened the road. There's only one corner which is particularly tight which could cause problems if you enter it a bit too quickly, although around 25-30mph was fine on my bike, the camber helped to drag the bike through too.

Might go up today, weather is great here today and im only down the road.

I use it most days I feel like a blast, but then I'm at the foot of it already.

Oh, and all the bikers should FO, as they are too slow and get in the way ;)

Matlock Bath is great for bikers, on a sunny weekend you can walk for about a mile with bikes parked up along the whole road. I'm not a biker but I think it's great :)

Yeah i've been 4 or 5 times, and every time i've been held up by bikers. Fast on the straights but walking pace round corners :/

Even for bikers it can be annoying.. it's all about the rider, and on our local b-road haunts, you get these slow bikers that I'm sure are enjoying themselves etc, but are just so slow it's painful..

Same goes for cars as well, I've lost count of people in fast cars that suddenly speed up when they see you coming, and it's satisfying to see that no matter how hard they push it you are just there welded to them, and when you feel like it, just blast by on a straight, and watch them slowly heading backwards through the next set of bends..

It's all about the driver/rider, although from my experience, it's a degree harder to ride a sports bike quickly then it is to drive a hot hatch quickly..

i'm so bored so don't take this as offensive as i'm just grumpy lol.

matlock bath is great for bikers who a) don't ride anywhere and just 'look' and b) have legal bikes which 90% aren't.

it's a pretty place but i remember i went their once and never again.

I did that road and a load around there about this time last year, awesome fun! It was in the week too, so not mentally busy, but a lot of nice metal (and plastic) to see. Was my first couple days riding and set the bar high for good roads!
